Here's a thing worth knowing if you've got one of these: most standard auto policies will only pay what a valuation model says the car is worth - and those models have no idea what you put into it.

Agreed-value coverage works differently. You and I agree on the number up front, in writing, and that's the number. I write those through Farris.

You need three things for this: a new moon, a clear sky, and to be far enough from town that the glow on the horizon isn't washing it out. East Tennessee still has pockets dark enough. Not many, but some.

Hummingbirds beat their wings something like 50 times a second. To freeze them you need a fast shutter and a lot more light than you think - which usually means waiting for the sun to come around to the right side of the porch.

They do not wait for you.

They fire the burners on the ground and the whole envelope lights up from the inside like a paper lantern the size of a house. Lasts a few seconds, then it's dark again, then the next one.

People ask when the best week for fall color is and the honest answer is that nobody knows until it happens. Elevation, rain, and the first cold snap decide it, not the calendar.

Found this one sitting out back of a shop, waiting on somebody to love it again.

I have a soft spot for the ones that aren't finished yet. A perfect car at a show is a beautiful thing, but there's something about a truck with faded paint and honest rust that tells you more of the story.

Harvest moon coming up over the water.

A moon this size and this orange isn't a trick of the lens - it's what happens when you shoot it low on the horizon, through a lot more atmosphere than usual.

The hard part isn't the moon. It's being in the right spot at the right minute, which is mostly just planning ahead and then standing there.
