Babies don’t keep, but the photos of them sure do 🤍

I think photos are magical time machines that can remind us of so much more than just what things looked like. Every time I look back at a photo of one of my babies, I can smell their baby smell, hear their coos and feel their tiny, bony fingers with skin that couldn’t be any softer. Photos have the ability to bring everything back, and I wouldn’t trade that for the world.

Pregnancy goes by so quickly. At first it seems like it will be forever before your baby arrives, but then the next thing you know you’re 8 months pregnant. You realize you haven’t really had a chance to slow down and appreciate that there is a baby inside of you!

I’d like to invite you to slow down with me. A maternity session is the perfect time to set aside everything else and appreciate everything about your miraculous body and the baby inside that won’t be there much longer.

Chatting with Gretchen and Jake was a huge eye-opener for me. Hearing Gretchen talk about how much she appreciated the time we spent capturing photos of her and Jake and their baby who will be here so soon, hit me right in the heart. That’s exactly why I am so excited to do this work. In this extremely fast-paced world we live in, I want to help you slow down and appreciate what is truly meaningful 🤍

“I’m so glad we don’t have to do hard things alone.”

I was talking with a close friend, who happens to be a doula, the other day, and while she was reflecting on a birth she’d been to recently, she said something that really struck me:

“They would have been able to get through without my presence, but I’m so glad we don’t have to do hard things alone and that we could share the burden and multiply the joys.”

I think this rings true in every part of life, but especially in motherhood. When we share our burdens with others, the really good part that’s on the other side of it is also shared.

Something to think about this week: What burdens are you sharing and what joys are being multiplied as a result?

“I had a fantastic experience with Kate starting from the very first email exchange. I admitted that I was a little hesitant to have maternity + newborn photos done because my home, as much as I adore it, isn't one that I would describe as "Instagram worthy." Kate's response was everything. Not only did she assure me that the perfect room or furniture didn't matter, but she gave the most heartfelt reasoning of why she wants to do this work—to capture real life in a beautiful way so that we document what is meaningful, not just was looks good. Immediately sold.

And then oh did she deliver! Damon and I felt comfortable in front of the camera the whole time, and we're just thrilled with how beautifully Kate was able to capture this sweet season of our life. I won't hesitate to work with Kate again once there's a baby #2 on the horizon!”

The sweetest twins in the whole wide world ❤️

“Kate was so easy and fun to work with. She was so patient and helped with feeding and soothing our babies in between pictures, which made us feel very comfortable. Not only did she take the sweetest photos of our girls, but she was also able to capture a small slice of our everyday life and what it's like taking care of twins. WELCOME! So glad you’re here 🤗

2022 has been a year of change, and I’ve been lucky enough to have the opportunity to pause and take some time to reflect on what I really want my life to look like. And the conclusion I have come to is that I am going to start pursuing joy, in every aspect of life, instead of waiting and hoping that it finds me.

I have a long list of interests that I want to spend my time working on, and this is one near the top of the list.

Simply put—I believe motherhood is magical. It changes your life in ways you would never believe and invites you to grow into someone you never thought you were capable of being. And I think that is so worthy of being captured and remembered 🤍

I hope you’ll stick around to hear more about the journey of motherhood, from all sorts of different women, and see all the real, beautiful moments that go along with it.
