All it took...
was the gift of a bight pink 110 cartridge film camera as a child and I was hooked! I snapped photos of all my friends and family and would spend hours organizing them into albums. In high school, I learned to develop my own film in the dark room and my passion for photography grew. This is where I really fell in love with the timeless beauty of black and white imagery! If you ask anyone who knows me well, they will assure you that this love affair for black and white portraits still feeds my soul today.
The truth is, I never imagined that I could make a career out of being a photographer, so I pursued my other love and became an elementary school teacher. It wasn’t until after my first baby arrived that I realized just how important it was to capture and preserve our memories, to document my kids growing up, and to create a legacy of photographs that could be passed onto my future grandchildren… something that would show them their history. So, I decided to dedicate myself to being the memory keeper for my family.
Shortly after my second child was born, we moved out of the area and I had the luxury of being able to stay at home with my kiddos. This is when I decided that I wanted to turn my passion for photography into a career. Unfortunately, life had other plans. I worked hard to educate myself and hone my craft, but between multiple moves for my husband’s job, another baby, a house fire, and the pandemic, it took years before I was able to turn this passion into a profession. I never gave up though and my tenacity eventually paid off.
Now, as a full time business owner of Erin Elyse Photography and a Certified Master of both newborn and family photography, I am fortunate enough to get to create heirloom works of art for so many incredible families, helping them to preserve their own legacy for generations to come.
