Layla Neal Arts Photographer Portraits Landscapes
Capturing the hidden, fleeting moments to cherish Hi World, I’m Layla Neal!

Photography has been a passion of mine ever since my Dad gave me his 35mm camera as a teenager. I am studying for a Masters in Photography at Falmouth University, UK. I have worked many years working in the UK media and for AL Jazeera News in Doha, Qatar for eight years before moving to the US to pursue photography professionally. My photography focuses on invoking emotional responses regarding th

e essence of places, people and objects. My style is a hybrid of documentary observations and metaphor striving to find the magic in the unexpected. Take a look through my camera lens at:

Here are a selection of images from my recent FMP offering for my Masters at Falmouth. Timucuan is personal work: this work is about grief, resilience, and recovery, as seen through my connection to a unique landscape in northeast Florida.

In 2017, I became a stepmother whilst losing my own child, at forty-five the chances of having my own child were over.
The emotional trauma I faced led to a sense of alienation and lack of support. Through visiting the nearby Timucuan Ecological Preserve, I found refuge for contemplation and self-reflection.

This project represents a journey of healing and the search for my own ‘sacred’ after experiencing loss. This landscape of the preserve played a vital role in my personal transformation and serves as a reminder of the restorative bond with the sacred of the natural world.

This work can be seen at Ecological Preserve's visitor center where I am currently artist in residence. The Images can be viewed on screen at www.laylaperchalneal.com. All are 120 film taken in the early hours experimenting with long exposures.

Foggy notions in the ‘burbs’ yet for me this feels more like ’where the wild things are’. Grabbed my camera and walked around my very quiet neighborhood in my pjs to capture the rolling fog off the river.
