I moved away from my home town halfway through 8th grade — it was hard to be uprooted from my small little valley town to a very stereotypical suburb, and more than anything else I really grieved being so far away from people I’d been friends with since I was a child. even though I didn’t stay close with everyone I would have like to, there was a handful of people who fought to remain close and figure out what a long distance friendship looked like.

em was one of those people, and being around her always feels like coming home. our closeness has ebbed and flowed over the years but it is so sweet to be in the same room and pick up right where we left off. going to visit her and Z was one of the highlights of my summer & here’s one more little pic that I love of the two of them. ❣️🫶🏼

em fell in love with z when we were all just little middle school kids in youth group together — she and I were childhood besties and I can remember talking about him at sleepovers as she wondered if something would ever come of it. she delicately carried hope and realism through high school and college, always curious if there was something between the two of them but openhanded enough to see other people and make her own way in the world.

fast forward almost 15 years from our middle school days — it was surreal to get to take these photos of the two of them this summer. in the last three years they (finally) got married after (finally) dating, moved across the country, bought a home and built a beautiful little life together. their love story is one of my favorites, and even thought I lived through so much of it with them, sometimes I still get emily to retell it just because I love to hear it.

so so so grateful to have gotten time with them & that they were willing to brave this thunderstorm for these sweet pics. :’)

for better or for worse I feel like I’m one of those people who has a difficult time working on more than one creative outlet at a time (s/o to all of you wizards who can do it all — have no idea how you do it but i have mad respect for all of you)

recently I’ve been writing poems/journaling more than I have been doing anything else (bc my therapist said so hahahaha). it’s been really healing and helpful to re-discover my voice after feeling like it left me for a while, but I feel like I’ve been sitting on so many photos that I love and am really proud of bc I have been in word-world for a little while & these are a few of them. I am slowly trying to find the balance of doing visual art&language art simultaneously so if anyone has any tips for that plz send them my way. :)

also I’ve recently discovered that I really love pickles, which is unrelated but FEELS very connected to all of that somehow.

also i just learned that today is in fact saturday and not sunday so have a great saturday everyone.
