My grandmother had a Brownie Camera that spent most of its days locked in the bookcase safe and secure in its tan leather case. It was a treat when she brought it out and allowed to me to look through the lens and pretend to take photos. It was her pride and joy. That camera remained in that bookcase until she passed away, but up to today I have never forgotten it and can still smell the leather o
f the case. Later, in my early teens, I started to paint and sketch and became somewhat of a prolific artist sketching many iconic figures in pencil including the reggae icon, Bob Marley, and football superstar, the legendary Pele from Brazil. In my late adolescent years as I discovered more interesting things in life, I lost all interest in painting and sketching. In the late 1980’s as I was trying to figure out my life and direction, my dear mother presented me with a Polaroid Instamatic camera. And voila, the love affair was rekindled all over again. This time even more intensely as I could now capture images instantly. My trusty Polaroid and I migrated to Canada and it helped me to capture some of the most beautiful fall and winter scenes during my early years. Living in Canada and being able to experience and enjoy four season living has fueled me to capture whatever my eyes see. Over the years my camera became my escape from life and the chaos of big city living. It became my refuge as it was the one thing that wanted nothing from me. Always next to me in my car, I have always had it handy to capture some amazing shots while traversing the highways of North America or wandering around lakes, waterways and parks. With no formal training in photography just my creative eye, I’ve learned to capture images which appeal to me and hopefully to some of you. To quote the legendary Danish photographer, Thorsten von Overgaard, “there is no perfect photograph…”
Please join me on this photographic journey and I hope you enjoy the images I share just as much as I do. Fotography by Dnomyar
