New Flyer Drop ‼️

In just a few weeks you’ll get to experience and buy contemporary art in Jacksonville by Local Black Artists in your area.

Spread the news tell a friend and clear that schedule cause this is something you’re gonna want to be a part of.

Friday we will start at 4pm and Saturday we will begin at 12pm.

Be sure to stop into the Peachy Nest on your way up on Saturday they are open from 11-4pm and have some of the best artisanal homewares around ! Without them I wouldn’t be where I am now 🙏🏽 so be sure to support our small businesses and local artist 😊 also that Saturday is the Blues and Brews Festival on the square which is within walking distance of the gallery so be sure to check that out and see what Jacksonville has to offer.

In other news, I’m having an art show.

May 1st marks one year of occupying this space and what started as two floors being used as storage space has evolved.

Slowly but surely memories and I’ll even go so far to say history is being created here I’ve hosted my own solo exhibition, expanded my knowledge and experience on portraiture and deepened my connections with my local community.

This space has helped me grow in many ways and my vision is to share that with others so that others can benefit from it as well. I haven’t really talked about the show since planting the seed a month ago but now we’re about a month out and the real work begins. I have invited a small group of black artist to submit their work and believe it or not that decision has been hard for me to sit with. I’ll give you a little foreshadowing of why and let you decide what you think but Jacksonville doesn’t really have anything like this. There are no rooms designed and or curated around the black experience and I’m looking to change that. Far too often we are overlooked underexposed and just down right ignored. If that makes you uncomfortable I’m not so insensitive as to say anything negative about you but it’s something that has made me uncomfortable so I know I’m on to something.

I am a living testament to the black experience here in America and more specifically here in Jacksonville IL. The more we burying things the more we allow ourselves to not take up space. so I want this show to be a signal and a statement that I am here and I am ready to share my perspective and experience and invite those who are having a similar experience to do the same. If you haven’t noticed yet, my soap box has been dusted off.

I present to you Ms. Alicia and I’m very pleased with how these photos turned out !

I’m excited to share cause we got some cool s**t but it’s her birth week and not her birthday yet so I ain’t gonna spill all the sauce but I am gonna talk about it and one of my favorite things about this shoot was to see the progression of how we started to where we finished. I think a good portrait session is a visual representation of a good conversation. At least that’s how I like to present it and it’s a huge part of my work flow. whenever I bring anyone into the studio I make it a point to really talk and listen to whoever it is I’m working with to try and create something we can both enjoy I don’t see it as me directing you around, I see it as me being witness to presence.
