FC Monmouth Women battled back from a halftime deficit Thursday night but were forced to settle for a dramatic 2-2 draw against Kensington soccer club in WPSL action at Count Basie Park in Red Bank.

Kensington struck first and carried a 1-0 lead into halftime, putting FC Monmouth on the back foot early in front of the home crowd. But the hosts responded in the second half behind a standout performance from Morgan Cupo, who delivered both goals for Monmouth.

Cupo found the equalizer after the break before striking again in the 65th minute to give FC Monmouth a 2-1 advantage and shift the momentum completely in favor of the home side. Monmouth looked poised to secure all three points as the clock wound down, but Kensington spoiled the night with a late equalizer in the closing moments of the 90th minute.

Despite the heartbreaking finish, FC Monmouth showed resilience after trailing at halftime and earned a hard-fought point in an entertaining WPSL matchup at Count Basie Park.

*** Senior Spotlight ***

When it comes to grit, endurance, and determination, few athletes represent Wall High School like Wall High School senior Cali Buxbaum. A standout for the Crimson Knights in cross country and track & field, Cali has built a reputation as one of Wall’s toughest competitors — pushing the pace, breaking barriers, and leading by example every time she steps on the course or track.

From dominating distance events to delivering clutch performances under pressure, Cali’s work ethic and competitive drive have made her a key part of the Crimson Knights program. Her impressive personal bests — including a 4:52 in the 1600m and a 10:31 in the 3200m — showcase the dedication and countless hours she’s put into her craft.

But what separates Cali isn’t just the times on the clock — it’s the consistency, leadership, and passion she brings to her teammates and school community every single day. Whether it’s race day or practice, she competes with heart and represents Wall with pride.

As her senior year comes to a close, Cali leaves behind a legacy of toughness, resilience, and excellence that will continue to inspire the next generation of Crimson Knights athletes.

*** Senior Spotlight ***

Ava is a senior in the Humanities Program at Howell High School, where she is an Honor Roll student and member of the National Honor Society. A three-sport varsity athlete in soccer, lacrosse, and track, Ava serves as captain of the Howell Varsity Lacrosse Team and has competed at the club level with Mad Dog Lacrosse and PDA Shore.

Her dedication to athletics has strengthened her leadership skills and academic success. Ava was the head of her Relay for Life team, helping raise funds for children battling cancer, and is actively involved in community service through volunteering at local farms, Rising Treetops, and Howell Senior Service Center. She also holds certifications in American Red Cross Lifeguarding with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid, and has worked as a swim consultant helping young children develop swimming skills. This summer, she will continue lifeguarding with the Spring Lake Beach Patrol.

This fall, Ava will attend Caldwell University (NCAA DII), where she will continue her dual commitment in soccer and lacrosse, while majoring in business.

Playoff lacrosse atmosphere 🔥 Rumson-Fair Haven and Manalapan battled it out Thursday night in a hard-fought Shore Conference Tournament matchup filled with intensity, big defensive stops, and momentum swings from start to finish.
