π¨π¨ THE FOX IS IN THE HENHOUSE. π¨π¨
The Trump administration just dealt a devastating blow to everyone who loves fishing, hiking, wholesome family vacations and the great American outdoors. The Senate just narrowly confirmed Trumpβs pick, Steve Pearce, to head the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).
They call him "Sell-Off Steve" for a reason.
This isn't just standard politics; this is a coordinated asset-strip of our country's natural heritage. The BLM oversees 245 million acres of public landβour lands. And Trump just handed the keys to a former oil executive who has spent his entire career arguing that America "doesn't even need" most of its public space.
Here is exactly what Trump and "Sell-Off Steve" have in store for our wild places:
β Selling Off Public Space: Pearce has openly co-sponsored bills (like the HEARD Act) designed to liquidate federal lands and hand them over to local politicians and developers. When asked during his hearings if his anti-public land views had changed, he literally answered: "I'm not so sure that I've changed."
β Corporate Giveaways: Pearce has deep oil-industry roots. Expect the Trump administration to fast-track sweetheart drilling and mining leases, slashing the royalties that oil companies pay back to American taxpayers.
β Shutting Out Everyday Americans: If you enjoy hiking, camping, or fishing (etc) get ready for locked gates and "No Trespassing" signs. When public lands are auctioned off or handed over to heavy industry, the public gets locked out.
Trump claims to be for the "everyday American," but appointing a guy who openly disdains federal land management to lead the BLM proves otherwise. They are treating our national parks, deserts, and mountains like a clearance rack for billionaires and corporate donors.
Our public lands are part of what makes America great. We cannot let Trump and "Sell-Off Steve" privatize them for a quick buck.
