Large predators eating some of the smallest prey is common trend in the animal kingdom. Think of whales and krill for example, but have you heard of bears and clams?

What would you do? Hiking in bear country requires more mindfulness and awareness, but that shouldn’t be confused for fear. Bears are conflict avoidant animals by nature - typically they just want to be left alone to focus on whatever they’re up to. Stay calm, respect their distance, and give them space to navigate around you, and usually they simply carry on. In the event a bear does get curious, stand your ground, escalate your response (don’t just yell, slowly work up to a more firm tone and body language), and have your bear spray ready as it is the most effective deterrent around!
