How did it get to be October? Days are getting shorter, leaves are changing and temperatures are falling. 'Summer Light' is gone, except in our photographs. Our group shared interpretations of light at it's northern hemisphere peak at the September meeting - from bright light on boats and a heron stalking its prey to rays of light cutting through the thick green forest.

Tomorrow (5 October) we are looking forward to sharing our 'Iconic Ithaca' shots. How do you see our town and its natural environment? Looking forward to seeing Ithaca from a variety of angles! Join us as usual on Zoom.

CNP members have been busy creating this summer. We shared samples of work at our meeting earlier this month - a diverse and interesting group of images! From photos captured on travels to macro shots - can you pick the image created by AI?

Coming up on September 7 we will be sharing our best of 'Summer Light'. Plenty of time before then to get out with your camera and catch the end of the summer rays.

We are back together tomorrow! Thursday, August 3 is a regular monthly 'share' meeting on Zoom. We'll be sharing what we are currently (or maybe even previously) been working on - do you have a project you are thinking about, or are doing, or maybe recently wrapped up? This will be a great session to show your work, whether it is still in progress or not. Looking forward to joining everyone in what promises to be a constructive session on 'What have I (you) been working on this summer!'

Hope everyone had a great 4th of July! There is no meeting tomorrow night. Instead, there will be an in-person outing to the Cornell Botanic Garden this Saturday, July 8 at 8am. There will be a couple of exercises to try and plenty of time to just enjoy being out together capturing the images that you enjoy.

It can be easy to avoid getting out in the rain to take photographs, but once over that hurdle of handling equipment and staying dry, what are the possibilities? Our June Meeting was truly wet and wonderful!

Rainy days are often gray and soft; water droplets glisten on plants and overlapping ring patterns in water are endlessly captivating. Our members shared a range of perspectives, demonstrating that rainy days can be great days for creating images with both mystery and beauty.

Many thanks also to Constance Stirling-Engman for sharing her passion and rapidly developing skills in underwater photography - adding another dimension to our water-based theme.

Don’t forget to check out the SOAG 34th Annual Juried Photography show in Ithaca! It’s open until July 2. We have four members with images in the show. Special congratulations go to Randi Millman-Brown for her award!

The “wild, wacky, and wonderful” world of desert plants was the subject of Kathy Rasmussen’s polished presentation at our May meeting. We don’t often get to see such a great collection of nature photographs from a completely different ecological zone! Many thanks to Kathy for making it a great meeting.

Kathy’s image (K.M. Rasmussen copyright 2023) with raindrops at the base of the "Bald Cholla" (Cylindropuntia cholla) is perfect for our June Meeting. Join us for a photo sharing evening on the theme of “Rain”. This one should be “wet and wonderful”! Member Connie Stirling-Engman will also share some of her (very wet) experiences and images from her underwater photography in the Caribbean.

Meeting – June 1st, 7pm – on Zoom. Images need to be submitted by 5pm on the day.

The March meeting stretched members to think in series - how can three images work together to create something greater than the parts? Some very interesting sets were shared, below are just two of the selection shown with the set in one frame. What do you think? Many thanks to Patrick and Don for sharing these.

Our next meeting is coming up soon! On April 6th we will explore photographs with the theme 'Nature in Black in White.' Time to think about contrast and light. Looking forward to the results. Maybe the images shared here will provide some inspiration.

The March meeting is tomorrow! Thursday, March 2nd at 7pm. Don't forget to submit your images by 5pm - this time we will share images that are part of a series. Put two or three images together that are similar, but different and capture the imagination or eye in new ways. Muhammed Arif's Tulips provide some lovely inspiration!
