Timpanogos Basin coming into peak wildflower season within the alpine tundra near treeline. This upper basin sits right underneath the southwestern side of Mount Timpanogos. Besides the summit area and the upper Timpanogos Basin that sits below, there also is a lower basin, and then descends even further into the valley below.

Soaring above the high peaks of the Wasatch Mountains, Mount Timpanogos stands tall over 7000 feet above Provo as well as the range's 2nd highest peak. Looking northward from the summit of Timpanogos affords a view into the core of Wasatch that rises sharply above the urban Wasatch Front.

Hiking mountains can really be changeling and is a test of mental and physical endurance. Staring the hike in the dark using flashlights in the cold, to the relentless uphill climb with temps soaring above average one goes from cold to drenched in sweat. Hiking this particular mountain one will gain close to a mile in elevation on foot. But all that work is worth it to get views like this, view majority of people will never see. I will never not get over summit mountain views!

I am still astounded by what I witnessed during the very early hours of Saturday. This is what my camera captured when I aimed it due overhead. It was like being surrounded by a dome as the northern lights danced and flickered directly overhead and completely all around you. Just wow!

After scoring the solar eclispe in Texas last month, now I had a front seat view of a G5 geomagnetic storm with the biggest northern lights show since at least 2003! Last night got insane, particularly as the 2nd wave came in sometime around 2AM when the lights became more vibrant and began to illuminate the ground. I took this shot as the northern lights were dancing over North Center Lake, and even reflecting off the lake! Purely epic!

I was able to cross off another bucket item off the list as I finally got to photograph Texas bluebonnets for the first time. After heavy rainfall a bluebonnet bloom occurred out in the open fields of Texas. This particular scene was taken outside of Ennis.

The total solar eclipse right as totality was about to end. This was my final shot during the totality phase. We were fortunate that the skies were able to really clear up in time to fully enjoy this spectacular event!

It's been quite a while since I've last gone out looking for the mountains, but come July I think it's time to hit some summits once again. And right now I'm eyeing the Salt Lake City region needing some different terrain I've not really explored yet. I think it's time to give Utah a real visit to see what the Wasatch Mountains have to offer as I've had long wanted to get into this mountain range.

It may have just been a simple and easy 3.5 mile hike in the forests an hour away from home, but it was one of the most colorful forest hikes I've ever done. Even the ferns are showing their color as well on the forest floor. It's rare to get a hike in where the entire forest is hitting nice peak color like this! A few hours before this photo I did not know this place even existed, having made a last minute decision finding this area outside Linwood when my first target did not pan out due to bad research on my end. This forest hike became my highlight of the 2023 season as far as fall color is concerned.

I've waited a long time for a shot like this as I was able to capture the tamaracks turning into their golden yellows with a backdrop of hardwood deciduous trees at their crimson peak! Once you move just north of the Twin Cities metro the color just explodes, and today I got some quiet hiking in a forest of pure color. It's been a difficult season, but today was outstanding as my scouting efforts paid off.

The tamarack trees are quite unique as their needles turn into a golden before dropping their needles just as the hardwood trees drop their leaves in the autumn. That means these pine trees are deciduous trees, and you will typically find them dominating wetland bogs generally north of the Twin Cities.
