I attended the Planet Ice exhibition opening at the John Heinz History Center, and I met Andrew E. Masich, PhD, President & CEO of the Museum. When I mentioned that I restore old photos, he asked me to send him my information. Today I received an email from Brian Butko, the Museum’s Director of Publications. He wrote the following in his email: “Your work on your website is impressive. If we ever have a difficult job or a bulk need, I will be in touch”

This photo is of another one of my ancestors. He was born in 1817, died in 1862, and was my Maternal Grandmother’s Grandfather. To restore the photo taken around 1840, I removed the stains, reconstructed missing areas of the screen, brought back faded details, and sharpened it.

This lady was my great-great-grandmother. Don’t know much about her, but I have this postcard that she sent to my grandmother and her sister in early 1900. I restored this photo by bringing in detail that was faded, making her eyes more natural by removing the black mark that someone drew in her pupils. Since I don’t know who the child that is standing next to her was, I removed it.

The original photo was kept rolled up in the attic. The heat dried it, and it became very fragile. When my client tried to unroll it, it broke into many pieces. I spent several days researching what I needed to do to be able to flatten it without breaking it into more pieces. Once I was sure that I was not going to damage the photo, I scanned the many pieces and positioned the different pieces in the right place. I started reconstructing the torn areas and sharpened it
