As some of you might have noticed the show albums look a bit different this morning and unfortunately this post has been a long time coming…
😵💫 This morning I fell down a rabbit hole and found multiple people screenshotting both unwatermarked album covers and watermarked images and posting them, some for multiple shows and years. Now I have seen a few people do this before and have fined and blacklisted accordingly but the amount of folks that thought any form of screenshotting images to avoid paying was acceptable was a bit sickening.
💪 I work so endlessly hard to be one of the fastest, high quality, and more affordable show photographers in Michigan for the level of coverage I provide. I gave over $4,000 in sponsorships last year to local shows as well as post an extensive amount of FREE candids for all shows I cover.
📸 Show photography is my passion, my art, and something I have put countless hours and have happily put my own personal life experience to the sideline for. I love cheering on friends and new exhibitors alike and capturing all their moments in the arena. I give and give so much of myself to this industry but, this is also my full time job and I realize it is time to get more active and firm about protecting this business I’ve created.
✨ Moving forward back number album covers will either be a show logo, my logo, or blank. It’s a shame because I know those sneak peek photos were how a lot of exhibitors found their photos but too many ruined it by screenshotted them as a way to get a free photo out of it.
🤝 This also isn’t just an issue I’m dealing with but SO many other fellow show photographers and it’s beyond exhausting and demeaning to many. Less and less photographers are willing to provide quality show coverage due to exhibitors stealing and outside photographers showing up and covering entire barns (another issue to discuss another day) so PLEASE, if you like have professional show photographers attend and support your shows DEFEND us!
👀 If you see someone sharing watermarked logos that either fully cover the image or has something along the lines of “stolen” or along those lines REPORT THEM! Even if you are not sure the photographer will be beyond grateful you at least tried and I know some even have reward systems in place for them. (I do 🤝)
🫣 Lastly, I really hate making these post. They feel so unprofessional and I have to quietly handle things like this for years but, I’m tired of it. To an extent I think I will starting making these types post more to both educate, warn, and set the ground rules.
💚 It was my childhood DREAM to work in the equine industry and I have so much love working this part of the equine industry especially. I refuse to let thieves and photographers poachers push me out of it. This is what I have devoted almost my whole adult life to and I will step up and defend it.
Thank you for understanding,
