Hey there, you look fine! Need a ride?

This little Frenchie 🐾 was full of energy and not interested in sitting still for a portrait, so we changed the plan and put him in the car. I blew my harmonica, he locked eyes with me for just a second, and I took the shot. 📸

When I looked at the LCD screen on my camera, I knew we had it.

WE GOT ONE! 😮

Photographing cats is a whole different game than photographing dogs. 📷

Dogs usually want to please you. Cats? Not so much. 😆

Cats are slick little boogers and they do whatever they feel like doing. You might get one good look when you make a sound… and that’s it.

My strategy? I let the owner gently keep placing the cat back where we want it while I snap photos like crazy. Cats move fast and they’re experts at using their body to twist away the second you relax… and then they bolt.

Getting a good cat portrait actually takes a lot of patience and timing. I even consulted with professional show-cat photographers to learn the tricks for capturing shots like this.

When it works though… it’s worth it. 🐱📸

I had a great event at Sparr in Wildwood 📸

This client had a tough time getting down because of his bad knees, but as a career firefighter, he pushed through. Respect. In the end, we got a great photo.

He had a good sense of humor too. He said, “Jim, you better be glad I don’t have my .38, brother. Getting down here hurts, man.” I told him, “You don’t have to, sir, but if you can, it’ll make a better picture than sitting on a posing stool.” I got the side eye for that one 😄 but they loved the final photo so much they bought a canvas.

Pro tip: when you’re doing family photos with pets, getting down next to them and showing them some love usually makes the shot even stronger. Pets are smaller next to us, so that angle brings the focus right where it belongs: on their happy faces.

Wow I am stoked! I recently did a photo event, and started unitizing one of the many backgrounds. It was bundle of various ones from a pro photo vender. I loaded them into a green screen software program.
