Dave Chappelle honored Eddie Murphy during the 51st AFI Life Achievement Award ceremony in Los Angeles with a deeply personal tribute.
Chappelle acknowledged the unique pressure Murphy faced at the height of his fame. "You were the hero that I worried about," Chappelle said on stage. "Man, when you came up, it looked lonely."
Chappelle shared a story about reconnecting with Murphy years later. Murphy encouraged him to revisit Chappelle's Show. "He said I should do a Chappelle's Show movie. And I said that would be tough. That's your brother. So Eddie, if I do it, you do the Charlie parts."
Chappelle recently revealed he's warming to the idea of bringing back Chappelle's Show. "If you'd asked me that question a year ago, I'd have told you absolutely not," he said.
