Hi friends, I’m back from my 2 month insta hiatus! Life’s been a bit chaotic recently mostly because...WE MOVED TO CALIFORNIA! 🤪 I may have wildly underestimated how time consuming moving across the country is 😅, but I’m finally feeling less overwhelmed and have so much content to share.

I finished editing this gallery today and I’m obsessed. Andrew and Megan had the most beautiful wedding day celebrating with close friends and family. Their destination wedding may have gotten canceled, but I truly don’t think they could have asked for a more perfect celebration. Congratulations my wonderful friends! ❤️

Had a double header this past weekend and got to celebrate TWO weddings!

Keegan and Megan said there vows as the rain poured down on the tin roof above them. It was the sweetest and most peaceful ceremony. ❤️

Weddings are always special, but they feel extra special when it’s two of your best friends. 🥰

Forever grateful for Laurie being my sideline Ultimate Frisbee buddy, while we watched the boys play. Even more grateful for the wonderful friendship that developed. ❤️

Derek and Laurie had the most beautiful intimate wedding with their immediate family. It was filled with lots of love, laughs, and yummy food... just like any good wedding should be. 😉

Let’s talk about the “I’m not a political person” excuse for not voting.

First, let me just point out the obvious… the Black Community NEEDS you to cast an educated vote in the November election. If we want real systemic change, voting for non-racist, well-educated leaders who are going to listen to Black activists and enact real change is vital to making that happen.

When you say you’re “not political”, what you’re actually saying is “I have so much privilege that I don’t need to care about politics and I don’t care about others who don’t share my privilege.” Do you fear for your life when you leave your house because the color of your skin? Do you live in a food desert or worry about how you will pay for your next meal? Are you able to afford the healthcare that you need? Have you ever been shamed because of your religion or sexual orientation? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you might want to change your opinion on “not being political.” If you answered no to all of them, it’s time to check your privilege and make educated decisions that will positively impact marginalized people who aren’t as lucky.

Not educating yourself and not voting just makes you selfish, it doesn’t make you “not political.”

Let me be clear: our stating that black lives matter doesn’t insinuate that other lives don’t. Of course all lives matter. That doesn’t even need to be said. But the fact that white people get so upset about the term black lives matter is proof that nothing can center the wellbeing and livelihoods of black bodies without white people assuming it is to their demise.

My personal message to those committed to saying “all lives matter” in the midst of the justice-driven work of the Black Lives Matter movement: prove it. Point out the ways our society—particularly the systems set in place to protect citizens like police officers and doctors and elected officials—are showing up to serve and protect black lives. Illuminate the instances in which the livelihood of the black community was prioritized, considering the circumstances that put us into less-privileged spaces to begin with. Direct me to the evidence of justice for the bodies discarded at the hands of those in power, be it by unjustified murder, jail cell, poisoned water, or medical discrimination.

These are the things that must be rectified for us to be able to exhale. Until then, I'll be here, my black fist raised with Black Lives Matter on my lips.

It's a collective gaslighting from the white community.

To all the couples who have been forced to downsize or reconceptualize your wedding day...

I hope you find grace in the intimate moments and extra time you get with one another.

I hope your day is filled with lots of laughter and all of your favorite things.

I hope that this gives you the opportunity to put yourselves first and recognize the day for what it is - a celebration of love and new adventures.

And so much, I hope that this special day can bring you light in the midst of so much darkness. ❤️

Anyone else been getting out of the house as much as possible recently? We’ve been taking every opportunity to get outside with the pup these last few weeks. We’ve been hitting the parks hard and River is becoming a little water dog with all of our hikes along the river. 🐶💦 Low key super excited that he loves the water so much, otherwise his name would be really ironic. 😅

Currently digging myself out of a creative rut by revisiting some old work. Turns out that I really miss these days of swimming through aqua-blue waters, where my biggest concern in life was whether that necklace I forgot to take off was going to attract a hungry barracuda and mistake me for lunch. 🤪
