Your venue is doing more work in your photos than you probably realize 📸

If your Pinterest is full of Italian villas but you’re getting married in an Indiana barn, your gallery is going to look like a barn wedding — and that’s not a bad thing! But if that disconnect bothers you, that’s something to think through before you book the venue, not after.

A few things to consider when venue shopping:
💍Visit at the same time of day as your ceremony — light changes everything
💍 Look at real weddings held there, not just styled shoots
💍 Think about outdoor space for portraits, not just the ceremony room
💍 Fall in love with the venue as-is, not just what you think décor can do to it

Setting realistic expectations before you book goes a long way when your gallery comes back. 🤍

Guys, this one’s for you 👇

I know the photo portion of the wedding day usually isn’t what most guys are looking forward to. My approach is simple: get the photos you actually need, keep things moving, and get you back to enjoying your wedding day as quickly as possible.

A few tips for grooms and groomsmen:

1. Have everything ready before I arrive.
Suit, shoes, tie, watch, cufflinks, vows, rings, etc. Having it all in one spot saves time and keeps the morning stress-free.

2. Don’t wander away.
The fastest way to get through photos is having everyone present and ready when it’s their turn. What starts as “I’m just grabbing another beer” has a way of turning into 15 minutes and suddenly we’re looking for half the groomsmen. 😂

3. Remember what the day is actually about.
The best photos happen when you’re focused on your bride and your vows 🤍

3 wedding reception tips from a wedding photographer 🤍

1. Make your grand entrance and first dance happen right after guests are seated. The energy is highest, everyone is paying attention, and your photos will reflect it.

2. Sneak away for 10 minutes at sunset. Trust me. Those golden-hour portraits are often couples’ favorite photos from the entire day.

3. Skip the pressure of visiting every table during dinner. While it’s a popular tradition, it often takes much longer than couples expect. What starts as a quick 30-minute walk around the room can easily turn into an hour, cutting into time you’d rather spend dancing and celebrating. Instead, prioritize attending cocktail hour or plan to mingle after the formalities are over. It’s a more natural, relaxed way to connect with your guests without feeling rushed.

A good reception timeline gives you plenty of opportunities to make memories - not just check things off a list 💍🤍

Mothers of the bride and fathers of the groom kind of get the short end of the stick on wedding days — there are no moments traditionally dedicated to them. So this is one of my favorite wedding day moments: just the bride and her mom. 🤍
