PSA for your Thursday: Wedding trends may come and go, but it’s moments like these that are incredibly timeless.

I can’t speak enough to the fact that your expression of pre-wedding anticipation, or your Dad’s teary eyes, or your fiancé’s goofy grin are going to be images that you cherish far and wide over the decor details that you labored over. I agree that those details are SO much fun and special and unique, but when you look through your photos with your grandchildren, images of your centerpieces won’t be the ones that they hang on to. (They may get a good laugh at your bridesmaids dresses 😉... but ultimately that’s not what they will cherish.)

I find that I must reorient my mind to focus on what is LASTING and what is IMPORTANT when documenting weddings these days. Its easy to get sucked into “beautiful wedding detail land” instead of focusing on what is happening around us.

Rather than leading with the mindset of- “I will document what looks the most aesthetically pleasing,” I must be led by: “what memories at this moment need to be bottled up?”

If you’re feeling the pressures of planning the perfect “look” for your wedding, I encourage you to remind yourself that all of that peripheral beauty will fade. Your wedding will be beautiful because of what the day represents, and your photos will be beautiful because you and those you love are in them. 🤍

If you’re planning a wedding, find yourself a photographer (whether myself or someone else) who values capturing the meaningful moments of your day more than the aesthetics of your day. It’s those images that will be timeless!

We have some weddings that we are pretty excited about this year! Venues in the mountains, at wineries, on beaches, nestled in the woods, in gardens, in the city, out of state, and more! So thankful to be able to pick my business back up in the PNW after a crazy covid year and a cross country move. It isn’t beyond me how much we have to be thankful for. Happy Saturday! Kurt has to work at a high school football game today (yes... football in the spring.... so weird) and so I’m going to spend the afternoon with my Mama. Maybe grab some food at one of our “newly opened” restaurants in here in Independence and take a walk along the river. It feels like stuff is finally returning to a strange sort of normal- albeit one with lots of outdoor eating tents and spring football and masks- but still.... I’m digging it!

This engagement sesh was one of the last pre-pandemic sessions that I had... I think back to that day and how blissfully ignorant we were of what was ahead 😆😅. Glad we are finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel!

👋🏻 Hello! Leah here. Just wanted to stop by and say a little ‘thank you’ for following along. Keeping up with the gram has never been my strongest suit but I try to keep the photos coming!

In case you’re new here, I am a photographer and graphic designer living in little ol’ Independence, Oregon with my husband Kurt (aka my trusty second shooter). We spent some time living in the Midwest but now we are back (well... it’s the first time living in the PNW for Kurt, but he fits right in). Most days you’ll find me working from my cozy couch- maybe watching reality competition shows (🙈) and drinking chai while I work 🙃.

My Instagram shows about 95% photography but my business is actually more like 50% photography and 50% graphic design at this point! Between documenting weddings and families, and doing all kind of freelance projects for some pretty awesome companies, I stay busy and I absolutely love the variety!

If you are a small business or an engaged couple or just someone who wants to collaborate creatively, I’d love to chat about what kind of project we could do together! 🤍

It’s a gloriously sunny day here today and it’s giving me all of the summer feelings (as much as one can have in early March 😅). There are tractors in the fields behind our house, kids playing in the street, small hobby airplanes flying overhead, and my mom came over for a walk. I am READY for the changing season and will just keep trying to soak in the days like this 😍 (and brace myself for the rain the rest of the week 🌧 🌧 🌧 😭)
