When Ayanna told me they wanted something a little different for their engagement session, I was immediately on board.

They didn’t want to pick a location just because it was pretty. They wanted somewhere that actually felt like them — and Ayanna said The Brewed Book completely fit the vibe.

And can we talk about this place for a second?! The bookshelves. The ladders. The warm wood. All of these little corners tucked throughout the shop. It is such a hidden gem.

This is exactly why I love choosing engagement session locations based on the couple instead of working from a standard list of “engagement photo spots.”

Give me the bookstore you could spend hours in. The bar where you had your first date. Your favorite coffee shop. The neighborhood you always walk through together. Your kitchen on a Sunday morning. Somewhere weird. Somewhere unexpected. Somewhere that means something to you.

It doesn’t have to look like an engagement session location.

It just has to feel like you.

This is what I think your wedding photos should look like.

Your mom holding onto you for an extra second.

Your dad trying—and failing—to keep it together.

The look on your face when you finally see each other.

Your best friends being your best friends.

And yes, the really beautiful photo of the two of you that gets framed in your house.

We’ll make time for that one. We’ll guide you. We’ll fix your hands, find the good light and make sure you have beautiful portraits.

But your wedding isn’t supposed to become an eight-hour photoshoot just because you hired a photographer.

The day is the point.

You should get to be in it.

Hunter + Erin did exactly that. They got married at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Davenport and celebrated afterward at The University Club—and these photographs aren’t a recreation of their wedding day.

They ARE their wedding day.

The people. The emotion. The pretty stuff. The chaos. The portraits. The things nobody could have planned.

My favorite wedding photographs happen when nobody is trying to make a photograph happen.

Don’t get me wrong—I still want the portrait that makes you say, “WOW I can't believe that’s us! ” I’ll find the light, pose you, fix the dress and give you direction when you need it.

But we don’t need to spend an hour doing it.

I’d rather get you back to your people and pay attention to what’s happening around you. The hugs. The reactions. Your friends laughing. Your parents getting emotional. The two of you finding each other in a crowded room and actually enjoying the wedding you planned.

That’s what I want more of.

Beautiful portraits and a whole lot of real life.

Anytime a couple tells me they are bringing four dogs to their wedding, it is an immediate, enthusiastic yes from me!

Scottie and Whitney’s wedding at Healy Hollow was beautiful, incredibly relaxed, and packed with the absolute best energy. Between a wedding party that was down to completely bring the fun (boy did we have fun) gorgeous open fields for portraits, and a couple that just thoroughly enjoyed every single second of their day, it was a dream to photograph.
But really, the dogs stole the show and were the real VIPs. The pups wore their wedding-day best (including a tiny tuxedo harness and custom floral wreaths) and handled their photo duties like absolute pros.

If you’re planning a Quad Cities wedding and want to make sure your pets are a part of the celebration, take notes from these two.

This wedding was one to relive! Filled with plenty of emotional tears through the epic party with - no notes.

was the perfect backdrop for everything they wanted—beautiful spaces, incredible energy, and a room full of people who were just genuinely excited to celebrate them. From the quiet moments before the ceremony to the energy on the dance floor, the entire day was just flat-out fun to photograph.

The Figge Art Museum is defined by its clean lines and glass walls, but Max and Fallon brought the soul. It’s one thing to document a black-tie event; it’s another to capture the way a heavy satin gown moves across a checkered floor or the split-second of chaos when the hats come out and the party shifts gears.
My approach for this day was “Elevated Documentary”. I wanted to utilize the museum’s grand architecture as a permanent backdrop while obsessing over the fleeting, unposed moments in between—the quiet exhales during portraits and the loud, unfiltered joy of the reception.
When you marry at a venue like the Figge, you aren’t just choosing a space; you’re choosing a vibe that is both timeless and unapologetically modern. Max and Fallon didn’t just fit the aesthetic—they defined it.
