During the Fraternal Order of Eagles International Convention, held in Columbus, Ohio, I was able to find a little time to get out to attempt some cityscape photography. This is the view of the Columbus skyline from the Main St. Bridge.

This particular evening, the clouds quickly started moving in just before sunset. I waited around until after dusk waiting for the lights to fully come on. With the weather coming in, most everyone had cleared out of the Scioto greenways and parks along the Scioto River. Luckily most lightning was cloud to cloud with no real visible streaks and the rain held off until after I left. Unfortunately due to rain the following days we were in Columbus, this was the only evening I was able to get out.

It was just over 4 years ago that I made the early morning trip to Bankhead National Forest from Huntsville. My goal was to hike down to Caney Creek Falls to be down at the falls around sunrise. There had been a few really cold days and even some snow that week. I had no expectation to find icicles hanging around the falls. This was one of those morning that getting up so early paid off.

It is hard to believe that it has been almost 5 years since I took this photo. Looking back through Facebook and Instagram I realized I apparently never posted it. Some may recognize this photo since it is displayed at the Hunstville International Airport.

The Saturn V rocket is one of the most recognized landmarks in Huntsville. It is has always seemed to be that symbol of being back home anytime I have traveled and come down I-565 back in Huntsville. It’s an icon of The Rocket City that I am constantly amazed when I realize I can see it from a location I never thought I could before.

I finally took the time to edit some of my images from my trip to Phoenix back in August. I had the opportunity to spend a week in Phoenix while attending the Fraternal Order of Eagles International Convention. I was finally able to get out to Lost Dutchman State Park the last day of our visit. I had plans to show up for sunset and wait around to attempt a little Milky Way photography. The clouds provided a great sunset but completely killed the idea of staying later.

With the Fourth of July coming up this weekend, I was looking through some of my images taken a few years ago. I decided to post this one with the hopes of getting back out this weekend. This image was taken at the Fourth of July fireworks show put on at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL. You can see the Saturn V rocket behind the fireworks even though it was unlit that year.

It was almost a year ago when I was in Reno, NV. I had the idea to get a skyline image of Reno, but I really only had one afternoon/sunset available to attempt it. I have played with this image multiple times over the past year and I was never really satisfied with the outcome. This image is composed of two images, the first image was around the end of sunset to capture some color in the sky and light on the mountains. The second image was just a short while later to capture the lights from the casinos and the city.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted any images. Honestly it’s been fairly rare that I’ve taken any images. I had the opportunity to be in Reno, NV this past July. During this trip I was able to make several trips to Lake Tahoe and spend a little quality time alone with my camera.

There is something absolutely peaceful about being at this overlook over Emerald Bay on the south end of Lake Tahoe. Standing there before sunrise, enjoying the quiet, and waiting for the day to start. Over three mornings I made the drive early in the morning to this same location hoping for a beautiful sunrise over the bay. That epic sunrise wouldn’t happen that week for me, but I will always remember the trip.

An early fall morning at the bottom of Little River Canyon near Fort Payne. I have been wanting to hike down to this location for some time and finally got the chance last Saturday. The water level was pretty high which completely changes the the safe locations to attempt this shot.

“The Sacrifice Statue reminds us of the human sacrifice paid for freedom”. These words are on the marker for this statue located at the Huntsville Madison County Veteran’s Memorial in downtown Huntsville. Let us all take a moment and remember those who have paid the supreme sacrifice.

Here is another image I found while going through images from last year. This is Big Spring Park in downtown Huntsville right after they had finished a Winter long renovation to the park. This sunset was simply amazing.
