Funny how some images just sit quietly in the archives… waiting for the right time to be seen.

I recently stumbled back across these images from Big Bend National Park, taken several years ago under some incredibly dark skies. The Milky Way rising above a blooming cholla cactus and felt just as magical now as it did the night I captured it.

Proof that sometimes the best surprises aren’t new adventures… they’re hidden in old folders.

And if you’ve been wanting to experience skies like this for yourself… consider joining me for my Capture the Cosmos Big Bend workshop this June.

“West Texas Skies”
Out here in West Texas, time slows down… and the sky takes over.

This old adobe hut sits quietly on the ranch, its walls worn by decades of sun, wind, and stories. By day, it’s humbly but by night, it becomes something else entirely, framed beneath a sky so wide, so impossibly full of stars, it almost doesn’t feel real.

The Milky Way spills across the darkness like a river of light, untouched by city glow, uninterrupted, infinite. You stand there for a second… then a minute… then longer than you planned. Because out here, you don’t just “look” at the sky, you feel it, you soak it in and you live it!

And suddenly, it makes sense. Why someone would choose this life.

Why they’d trade noise for silence, crowds for distance, convenience for something deeper.

Because when your ceiling is the universe, and your nights look like this… you’re not giving anything up.

You’re gaining everything!

Some images stick with you… sometimes for years.

This one came back around in a way I didn’t expect. A past client recently reached out asking about this sunrise along the coast of the Big Island of Hawai‘i. Turns out, they had screenshot it from an Instagram story I posted way back in 2022 and held onto it all this time.

When they asked if it was available as a print, I went digging through my archives from that trip… and couldn’t find the final image anywhere.

Because it didn’t exist.

I had never actually edited this shot.

So here we are, finally bringing this moment to life a few years later. Proof that sometimes the right time for an image isn’t when you capture it… it’s when it finds its way back to you.

Really glad this one did. Scroll through to see the screenshot capture and the final framed metal print.

Hope everyone has a great Easter weekend!
