Life is so fragile…
We see it every time we hear of another mass shooting, another stabbing, another life cut short by violence. We see it in the latest horror—the political assassination of Charlie Kirk, who was fatally shot while simply living out his convictions in the public square.
These tragedies pierce us. They remind us how evil still moves among us, sometimes hidden, sometimes brazen, preying on fear, division, hatred. They show how quickly any one of us could be the next victim. They expose the brokenness of a world marred by sin—and how much is at stake when words harden, when anger turns into violence, when ideology overrides human life.
And yet, even here—amid tears, outrage, bewilderment—there is a deeper story that Christians are called to hold onto. For we believe that evil will not have the final word. We believe that in Calvary’s shadow, death was swallowed up. That the cross, which looked like defeat, was the greatest victory. That the resurrection proclaims: God always wins. Even when darkness feels overwhelming, light has not been overcome.
So in this time, our calling is greater than ever. We are called to mourn with those who mourn. To stand for justice. To push back against hate, not with more hate, but with courage, truth, and love. To speak truth when silence tempts us. To bear witness to the only hope that does not fail. To love our neighbors—even those with whom we disagree—as Christ has loved us.
And we live in hope—hope in Christ’s return, when He will wipe away every tear, heal every wound, and bring perfect peace. On that day, all that is good, all that is true, and all that is beautiful will shine forth in fullness, as God’s glory reigns without end.
