UPDATE:

Based on the HPS Weather Team's analysis, we are going to cancel tomorrow's planned outing to Old Car City and reschedule for a time this Fall. The rain chances in White, GA are highest between 10am and 2pm tomorrow, which would severely limit our opportunity to explore the venue. Given the 3 hour drive each way, we want to ensure we get a great experience. If you know of others who were planning to attend, please pass this news along.

Update for TONIGHT

Our Competition Meeting will proceed as scheduled at 6:30pm at the GigaParts Superstore (6123 University Dr, Huntsville, AL 35806). The classroom is in the back of the store just past the restrooms. The theme this month is "Leaves/Petals" and Mary Beth Johns will be our judge.

Tomorrow’s meeting has been cancelled to allow for members to attend the celebration of Philip Flowers’ life from 6:00-8:00pm at The Event Center at Roto - Rooter Huntsville.

It is with great sadness to report our good friend Philip Flowers passed away this week. Philip wasn't just a fantastic photographer, he was a wonderful mentor and teacher. Philip will be sorely missed. The following is a link to his obituary:

Philip's family is planning a celebration of his life on Monday, April 14 from 6:00-8:00pm at The Event Center at Roto - Rooter Huntsville.

In honor of Philip, our April 14 Program Meeting has been cancelled so that HPS members can attend this event and share their stories and memories.

While it's not an official HPS outing, tomorrow afternoon's Maple Hill Cemetery Stroll is an excellent opportunity for some candid portrait photography. The event will feature more than 75 costumed characters representing people from Madison County's past. HPS's own Bob Gathany will be dressed as Ira Collins, Huntsville's premier photographer from the early 1900s. The Stroll is from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm at 203 Maple Hill Drive (at California St and McClung Ave).

QUICK REMINDER FOR TONIGHT:

We will be moving to our new meeting location at the new classroom in the GigaParts store starting TONIGHT. The store is located at the old Burlington Coat Factory on University (6123 University Dr, Huntsville, AL 35806). You'll find the classroom in the back of the store, just past the restrooms. Also, the start time is shifting 30 minutes earlier to 6:30pm to accommodate store hours.

We will be also having a novice class tonight at 5:30 (an hour before the program meeting). The topic will be the Exposure Triangle. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn some of the basic terms and principles and take creative control of your camera. Participants are welcome to bring their camera.
