There are a lot of screws inside a camera. Screw heads are not all the same. Screwdriver tips are not all the same. Case in point, use a regular "Philips" screwdriver on screws in an OM camera, and they will be damaged. IF you are going to work on a Japanese camera, you should invest in screwdrivers with "JIS" tips (Japan Industrial Standard). Pic shows 2 screws damaged by non-JIS tip, replaced with good screws.

PLEASE, don't do this. Sq**rt oil into your camera? This case, camera is beyond repair. Oil has already flowed into the shutter. Speeds extremely erratic. Oil slick will eventually show on curtains, even focus screen. No, you can't just 'was the oil out".

You bought an OM-1N. When trying to change the ASA/ISO setting, you find the k**b impossible to turn. Check an instruction book first but: Forcing the k**b (in this case) breaks off the locking studs inside . Wow, k**b turns easy now (and doesn't lock). Second pic shows what a good inner k**b should look like. When all else fails, press and hold the LOCK button while you turn the k**b.

Just a FYI. One of the ICs found on the OM-2/2N circuit board.

The Achilles heel of Olympus OM Winder 1, 2, MD1 and 2. That "O" ring slips down over the center shaft. The ability to wind to the next frame depends on the tightness of the O ring. As time goes by, the rubber ring turns to tar and the motor just runs without winding film. Of course, ring is not a common size and discontinued.

Sorry, it's been awhile. Picture shows how some parts have changed after introduction of original M-1. First version of wind mech was more of a pain to service.

This topic came up on Reddit recently. WD40! For years (decades) you couldn't find the word "lubricant" or "lubricate" on the can. It was being pushed as a lubricant by many users but is actually used as a "Water Dis-placer". Photo of a recent can now lists one of it's many uses as a l**e. FINE for a sticky patio door slide but please, do NOT use it in a camera. If you do, you might as well throw the camera away.

Before and after picture of what is found in many OM-1/1N bodies. One the left picture of battery connection from an owner that said "My battery lasted over 5 years". Connection is totally corroded and corrosion has run into wire inside the insulation. Right image shows after filing off all old corroded solder, tinning connection and attaching new wire (which runs all the way up to the meter switch). BTW, "Solder" is often pronounced with a hard "L" as in "sold -er" but "sodder" is how I've always pronounced it, and according to Websters, is perfectly acceptable.
