I just got home from work but wanted to share some screen grabs I got while I was sheltering in my delivery van this afternoon of some beautiful lightning as severe thunderstorms moved through the region today!

Lightning was hitting all around me but I managed to capture a few good lightning bolts on camera whole pea sized hail was falling all around!

I apologize that I couldn't chase today, provide any updates or live stream the storms. I really hate missing severe weather events like today due to work but until storm chasing pays the bills, I'm going to hustle every day!

Scattered showers and even a few storms are possible today across Central PA!

🟢 The Storm Prediction Center has issued a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5, Dark Green) for severe thunderstorms today. While nothing is expected to be really bad, there could be some gusty winds, small hail and heavy rain. We storm chasers here in PA like to refer to Marginal Risk days as "Marginal Magic" as some days we have better storms than on days with Slight or Enhanced Risk days.

Lightning, however, is always dangerous so remember if you hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.

Highs today won't be cold, but it won't be hot either. Chilly tomorrow but then moderating Friday with a warmer day.

Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms out there!

An amazing evening walk tonight while at Lime Bluff Park! The feathery clouds, the perfect temp, the amazing colors and the dandelions!

From the pretty puffy dandelions to the beautiful green grass, the singing birds and the laughing kids in the distance, tonight's walk was amazing!

Not a big threat but as we go through the evening and then into the overnight hours, strong and even some severe thunderstorms will blast across the Northeast US and here in Central and Northcentral PA!

The radar is lighting up across Lake Erie and Western NY so as the sun sets over the next couple of hours, we will see the arc of showers, torrential rain and thunderstorms move Southeast.

🟡 The Storm Prediction Center has issued a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5, Yellow) across portions of Western NY, NW PA, NE Ohio and Southeastern Ontario (Canada). The severe thunderstorm threat will dissipate as we get into the overnight hours but some heavy rain and gusty winds are still going to be likely!

While flying my drone a few weeks ago, I manager to snap this beautiful photo of nearly the entire Hughesville High School campus!

The football stadium is currently being remodeled, the new bleachers are up along with the new building that will support the new press and announcing booth!

You can see (although just barely) the main parking lot at the high school where Seniors paint their own parking spots!

To the right, the new tennis courts (completed Fall 2025) are visible.

Construction is also being done to the far left including drainage and flood management to the small stream that runs behind Bodine Park, homes along Cottage Street, Randy Drive and Cardinal Drive, under Cemetery Street, behind Hughesville High School, behind Ashkar Elementary School, past the baseball and soccer fields (Sports Complex) and down through Lime Bluff Park.

Also, the East Lycoming Little League complex is seen from above!

I'll be flying above the soccer stadium, AYSO soccer fields and HHS Softball fields soon! Stay tuned for those images!

Much needed rain will fall across much of Pennsylvania and the Mid-Atlantic today, and some rain may come as downpours from thunderstorms!

While severe thunderstorms aren't expected to be widespread, there could be some strong to severe storms in some spots.

Rainfall from .5" to over 1" is likely as the rain and some rumbles of thunder are moving through Western PA and will shift into Central PA over the next couple hours.

Take precautions if you're going to be traveling to slow down, give yourself extra time to get where you're going and don't tailgate.

Temps will also be cool today, due to the clouds and rain.

Check out these really cool (and perfectly harmless) clouds seen from the Hughesville area and the Junior High Boy's Soccer Tournament this morning!

"Undulatus asperatus (officially known as Asperitas) clouds are formed by turbulent, wavy air motions in the upper atmosphere, often following convective thunderstorms. While they appear chaotic and ominous, they are typically harmless, dissipating without causing severe weather. They result from interactions between gravity waves and strong wind shear."

These clouds formed due to air moving over Bald Eagle Mountain towards the North, causing ripples and waves to form in the clouds. Even now the clouds are turbulent looking, but they are nothing to be worried about.

Eventually, in a couple of hours, rain and even a few storms could roll in but for now it's a damp, moist atmosphere and things just feel wet, especially where it rained overnight.

What a beautiful day we had yesterday! I've had a long couple of days but off today and what do you know, we have some showers and even some storms moving into the Central PA area from the Northwest!

Over the next hour or two, be on the lookout for some lightning and thunder, along with some rain to move through Central and then Eastern PA.

The Storm Prediction Center has most of Pennsylvania under a General Risk so while severe thunderstorms aren't expected, lightning can and does bring a very real danger that shouldn't be minimized.

When thunder roars, go indoors!
