“Brain Stories”
Archival Inkjet Photographs
Over the course of a human life, individuals grow accustomed to the way they think and perform daily tasks. However, individuals who sustain brain injuries are suddenly forced to re-learn how their brain works because of the alterations that may occur during a blow to the head. As a survivor of three severe concussions and long periods of post-concussion-syndrome, it has come to my attention that most people do not fully understand the severity that a brain injury can cause.
People with brain injuries often cannot effectively express how they feel, because an injury as such affects the way one’s brain works. For many people, talking about their injury to someone who has been through the same thing or something very similar provides a sense of closure because at often times, living with a brain injury can feel like you're isolated from reality. Looking back on all three of my concussions, I wish I had someone to talk to who could relate to my situation. Because of this, I thought it was important to offer myself to other people looking for someone to fill this role.
For this project, I traveled with each person back to the site of their injury, and documented them in that location.
*I hope to continue this project in hopes of promoting awareness on concussions and other brain injuries. Contact me if you have a story you would like to share: [email protected]*
