Even though summer is in full swing, we are still thinking about Field Day!

As we look back on the final days of the school year, we're grateful for the laughter, teamwork, friendly competition, and memories that made Field Day such a special event. From relay races and games to cheering on classmates, our students demonstrated enthusiasm, perseverance, and great sportsmanship throughout the day.

Thank you to Bad Cat Media for the amazing pictures, to our staff, volunteers, and families who helped make the day a success. A thank you to Northfield Township for bringing the water surprise to close out the day!

We hope these photos bring back some great memories as everyone enjoys a well-deserved summer break!

We are still celebrating the Class of 2026 as they conclude one chapter and begin another. Through years of study, friendship, perseverance, and growth, they have sought truth, cultivated virtue, and prepared themselves for lives of purpose.

As Seneca reminds us, “As long as you live, keep learning how to live.”

Congratulations, graduates. May you carry forward the wisdom you have gained, the character you have developed, and the courage to pursue what is good, true, and beautiful. We are proud of you and look forward to all that you will accomplish.

Thank you to our photographer, Bad Cat Media, and to 242 Community Center Brighton for hosting our event.

Here is an unsolicited photography lesson on depth of field, meaning how much of your subject is in focus.

This was shot at 600mm (pretty far for a lens) f5.6 and my subject was across a baseball infield. As you can see by looking near the feet, there is probably the space from the mid-cleat to six or so inches in front that is actually in focus. This is because the focus is on the eye or face and the player is leaning forward. In fast moving sports, especially those with masks and at a distance, it is hard to catch focus on a head and almost impossible to get an eye, meaning the camera will likely grab the whole torso making the focus less than ideal. For instance, if the focus is catching on a knee or thigh area the subject's face can be out of focus because the DOF is less than a foot in many cases. with an indoor sports lens.

I've lost many great shots this way because shooting sports is always a balance of setting your camera for the speed and lighting conditions of a game.

Today is the day, sign up early!

I enjoyed a little photo hiatus, but I'm right back at it again this weekend with two big events! Tomorrow I will be shooting Livingston Skate Club's evening Ice Show, the most my arm ever hurts while shooting because of the jam-packed action. 😅

On Sunday, the Hockey Championship Series Spring Splash returns to 140 Ice Den for a day of 6U/8U hockey. For families attending this event, I will be shooting only TWO players per time slot, so register early by scanning the QR code or clicking the link in the comments.

See you this weekend!

Another great show from Livingston Skate Club! They get better every year!
