The Last Photo I Took of US Representative Jackson-Lee.
It was Oct 21st, 2023. Since Lillie got me into the political photography game, I saw Rep Jackson-Lee A LOT. That means she saw me a lot. On this particular day, she was sneaking into a fundraiser late. So as not to interrupt the proceedings and her movement, I stepped to the side so she could make her way in (to where the money resides (I couldn't help myself)). Watching how politicians moved, I learned to steer clear when they are moving with intention, Rep Jackson-Lee was seemingly always moving with intention.
She comes in, and I slide to the side. She says "Oh no, I need you to take my picture!"
"Yes, ma'am."
A lot has been said about her, good, bad, and otherwise. She was forever on the hustle for her district and the folks that looked like her. I only wished more people could have gotten to hear her speak in a prepared fashion. Just so you know, she could blindly grab a mic and you would FEEL like it was prepared. However, she was an orator with a command of wordplay, cadence, rhythm, and volume. I dare say, that few could touch her prowess on stage.
She will be missed. Her presence will continue to be felt as she came into this world and did what she could to make it better.
