Water and Fire

Water and fire; two faces of the same truth. One flows in silence, calm and yielding; the other burns with restless intensity. And between them stands the human being, a fleeting presence in the vast passage of time.

Perhaps life is, at its core, absurd. We enter it without choosing to begin, and we leave it without choosing the end. Yet meaning is not found in the destination; it is born from our resistance to that very absurdity. It emerges in our ability to love, to create, to forgive, and to continue moving forward, even when we know that nothing lasts forever.

At times, we are like water, quietly flowing through the landscape of our days. At other times, we are like fire, consumed by desire, passion, and pain. Some days we sink into the depths of sorrow; on others, we stand upon the peaks of joy. But neither grief nor happiness remains. Everything passes, and perhaps it is precisely this impermanence that gives each moment its value.

Death waits at the edge of every path not merely as an ending, but as the boundary that gives shape to the story. Without death, life would lose much of its urgency, its beauty, and its meaning. What makes a moment precious is not its permanence, but its fragility.

So perhaps the true question is not what meaning life possesses, but how we choose to create meaning within the brief space between birth and death. For in a universe destined for silence, the act of keeping the flame alive is itself the deepest form of meaning.
