Sergio began travelling in 2011, and decided an important addition to his carry on was a fancy camera. With each exciting adventure he discovered new depths of his love for seeing the world through a lens. It allowed him to see the beauty of the world with new eyes. Then as his adventures expanded to include a wife and child, so too did his carry on, not just strollers and diaper bags... but new l

enses, filters, lights. He jumped head first into photography and the gift of being able to record not just the world around him, but capture a cheeky glance or sneaky smile of those he loved. This passion soon expanded to include a wider circle as others began seeking him out to photograph their adventures. For a photographer a self portrait is an interesting reflective moment, to stop and assess not just how your style and skill with the medium has evolved but also how your vision of self has changed over time.

It is a fun exercise to find a moment and take some unhurried snaps, take a beat, assess the journey, acknowledge the changes and step into the future.

The thing that has always drawn me to photography, is the desire to catch a fleeting moment. Anyone who knows me, knows that my memory is not as I would like it to be, and I am frustrated at times by my wife’s ability to recall the minute details and anecdotes of our past. Yet this session was a flashbulb of memories, appropriate that we got around to our maternity shoot the weekend of our 7th anniversary. Both of us laughing in the dappled sun beneath the trees as pose ofter pose had us recalling our kiss outside the church on the day of our wedding, the photos I snapped of the same heart clasped hands while she was in labor with our first, the goofy quirked eyebrow of early headshot session where she was my guinea pig, and the bitter sweet memories recalled of just a year to the day earlier as our daughters eagerly kissed their little brother through my wife’s straining belly. Photography is gift where you can revisit memories in viewing of the picture, but also in their making..

For every wince or disapproving eye I see as my wife looks at her changing self in the mirror, I use my camera to show her how beautiful she is in my eyes.
A body that has carried and nurtures our children, a bright smile that lights up at their (and my) antics, and arms that encircle us when we need comfort and care.
Grateful for my reluctant model, may she see what I see.
