Later is not promised.

I have taken pictures of my mom from the very first day I ever picked up a camera.
She always let me photograph her.
But every time I asked to sit her down, to interview her, to let her tell her story on camera, she'd say:
"Not yet. I'm not ready. I'll do it later."
Later.

And I believed her. Because she always meant what she said.

But later came.

And she was gone.

Last week marked one year.
This week is Mother's Day.
And I have lots of photos but I don't have her story. Not the way she would have told it. Not in her own voice. Not on her own terms.

The Everyday Legacy Project was born from that silence.
For every mom who says "not yet."
For every child who is still waiting on later.
Later is not promised.
We do it now. We capture the image and the story behind it.

Together. Before later becomes never.
