Michele texted me a couple of months before her 50th birthday, saying she wanted to celebrate this milestone birthday with her own 50 Over 50 photo shoot, and I can't think of a better way for her to honor herself!

Michele and I were acquaintances in high school, and it was such a privilege to be able to reconnect and create these gorgeous portraits for her. In addition to celebrating her 50th birthday, her shoot also honored another significant milestone - her health journey, which completely transformed her metabolic health and her body. That confidence allowed her to finally be comfortable in her own skin and not dread being in front of the camera, and, for the first time in her life, to feel excited about being photographed.

Michele, I am so proud of you. Not only for your hard work to become so healthy, but for your true heart for others, your desire to make the world a better place, and your determination to be a model for your daughters. I am honored to know you and call you my friend!

TO THE WOMAN WHO'S NERVOUS

First...you are not alone. Literally no one comes into the studio completely confident, absolutely knowing that she will totally rock her session. This is true for every photo shoot I offer, from 50 Over 50 to headshots.

EVERY WOMAN has the jitters.
EVERY WOMAN questions whether she brought the right clothes (even though we had a wardrobe consultation ahead of time).
EVERY WOMAN has something that concerns her about her body or appearance.
EVERY WOMAN is carrying a load that few people see.
EVERY WOMAN has a whispered voice asking if she will even like any of these photos.

For every question that's in your head, someone else has already asked it. And here's what she found.

Even though she showed up nervous and started off the shoot feeling stiff and unnatural, after a few minutes...

She listened to my (very specific, lol) posing guidance and followed my directions.
She heard my excitement over what I saw through my lens.
She saw my face light up when she gave me a beautiful expression.
She felt the fan gently blowing her hair, making her look like a cover model.
She closed her eyes and danced to her favorite song.
She shook her head back and forth without a care in the world.
She laughed - really laughed - when I asked her to do something completely ridiculous.

And in those moments, something started to shift.

The woman who came in unsure and nervous loosened up.
She relaxed.
She forgot about her heaping-full plate, even for a few minutes, and enjoyed herself. (You can't think about the things stressing you out while you are following my very specific posing guidance.)
She looked at the sneak peek on the back of my camera and had a hard time believing what she saw...because she didn't just think it was OK, she LOVED it.

This is what I do. I show you how I see you.

Curious: what makes YOU nervous?

After a year of photographing women for my Wise Women: 50 Over 50 campaign (just 4 spots left!), I am even more in awe of the deep well of grit, resilience, and adaptability that many women over 50 possess. I knew that making it to 50 inherently means you've earned many life lessons, but the variety of stories I hear from the women in my studio is proof of just how strong women can be.

At 59, Rosalind found herself single and rebuilding her life after years of feeling controlled, belittled, and used by her ex-husband while also facing her own serious health challenges.

Her strength to endure cancer treatment on the heels of a divorce while simultaneously figuring out a new way to live sounds like more than anyone could bear, but this is what women do.

We keep going. We wake up each day and face what's in front of us. We do the next necessary thing. We do the thing no one else wants to do. We notice things others gloss right over and address them. We take care of everyone (except maybe ourselves).

Through her unexpected season of singleness, Rosalind rediscovered herself. She rebuilt connections and relationships. While she still desires a healthy relationship and the support and love that go along with it, she's no longer willing to trade her worth and dignity for a relationship that only serves the other. She's enough, and she's beautiful.

Meet Kimberly Lalou, one of the unstoppable women featured in my Wise Women: 50 Over 50 Portrait Experience, a portrait series celebrating the beauty, confidence, and wisdom women carry into this season of life. Kimberly's session was a gift in more ways than one: it was actually given to her by her employee and friend Jenna, who loved her own 50 Over 50 experience so much she wanted to share it with Kim.

Kim also took advantage of the option to invite someone else to join her for the last 20 minutes of her session, so her hubby Cody joined her for some fun, quirky, definitely-not-your-typical couples' shots - those were SO much fun to create, and I love how it shows off their personalities and the playful side of their relationship.

Laurie, a certified health coach, is another long-time friend who decided to jump into my Wise Women: 50 Over 50 Portrait Experience with both feet! Laurie has learned that a good life isn't measured by accomplishments, possessions, or how everything turns out in the end, but rather it's measured by what we choose to count along the way. A health coach, wife of 31 years, mother of two young adult sons, and lifelong learner, she has come to value experiences over things, meaningful relationships over busy schedules, and authenticity over perfection.

After losing her mother to cancer at just 52 and later facing her own health challenges, Laurie became determined to take charge of her health and help others do the same. Today, she embraces this season of life with gratitude, wisdom, and the confidence to be fully herself, finding joy in family, friendship, faith, and the everyday moments that matter most.

You usually see the finished images. What you don’t see is everything that happens before the first photo is ever taken.

Every photography assignment starts with careful preparation—camera bodies, lenses, batteries, chargers, memory cards, lighting gear, backups, and one final check to make sure nothing gets left behind.

Last week, my gear and I headed to beautiful Golden, Colorado, where I had the privilege of photographing a friend’s mountain wedding. While I don’t photograph weddings often, I couldn’t pass up the chance to help celebrate such a special couple in such a beautiful place.

The location may change. My preparation never does. 📷⛰️

It's been quiet on this page, y'all, because I've had:

✅ An on-location headshot day for my amazing repeat client AmRisc Group
🏖️ 25th-anniversary celebration getaway with my love and close friends to Akumal in the Mexican Riviera
✅ 50 Over 50 Shoots and Reveal/Ordering Sessions
✅ In-studio corporate/onboarding headshots for repeat clients Industrial Tax Consulting, STV, and Texas ENT
✅ 80th birthday family shoot for a dear childhood friend's mother and the whole family
🔨 Mission trip with my daughter's youth group to Dallas where our group built two wheelchair ramps in partnership with Texas Ramp Project
💕Volunteering with my daughter for National Charity League, Champions Chapter and hunting down a dress for her Senior Recognition event in a few months
✅ Prep for a small destination wedding I'm photographing next week (no, I don't usually do weddings - only for very special people, lol!)

So I haven't been on top of my social media, but I hope to share more with you very soon.
