With profound sadness, we share the news that Travis Wilkinson passed away Sunday, October 11, 2026. Travis first started working at a racetrack in 2023 & quickly became part of our track family. In addition to working the gap in the mornings, he also worked in the holding barn at night, calling horses up for the races. Known for always having a smile, Travis was a bright spot at the track for everyone who knew him. He was a quiet unassuming soul who always spoke with kindness. His good friend & co-worker, Leon Cassell, remembers Travis as "not understanding horse racing much but what he did love was the people & the animals who are involved. He would help them any way he could, no questions asked."
His presence & his smile will be missed by everyone at Sam Houston, Retama, & Zia Park. Our prayers go out to the Wilkinson family & his loved ones & friends. Rest in peace, Travis, your memory will always make us smile.
