As usual, I decided to make a last-minute trip to Fort Payne, Alabama, to visit some friends—and, as it happens, Hurricane Isaac is heading straight this way. We’ll see how things go tomorrow, but for now, we’ve been treated to this absolutely beautiful sunset.

This latest visit to the Great Smoky Mountains was perfectly timed. The heavy rainfall created numerous waterfalls, and this one—located about half a mile past the Institute at Tremont—was my favorite.
