What a week at one of the biggest wildlife film festivals Wildscreen. I came to meet a global community of wildlife filmmakers, and left feeling part of something much bigger than any one film.

Some highlights⚡️

Mark your calendars! Greenland shark scientist Julius Nielsen has followed our invitation to speak at The Maritime Museum & Aquarium in Gothenburg, November 11th - as one of the remarkable talks that are being held this autumn under the umbrella of the ongoing exhibition "Sharks Camera Action".
Greenland sharks can not only be several hundreds of age, dive deep and live under ice - they even travel long distances into Swedish waters.

As lead author of a landmark study by an international team of scientists, Julius Nielsen helped reveal the extraordinary longevity of the species. Research that brought the shark to worldwide attention. Since then, he has focused on various aspects of its biology, including longevity, feeding ecology, migratory behavior, reproductive biology, and life history across the North Atlantic.

All of these topics are essential for understanding why Greenland sharks can be found as close as the Skagerrak, the strait between Denmark, Norway, and Sweden.
Julius Nielsen is currently a Research Associate at the Natural History Museum of Denmark (University of Copenhagen). He has also been part of my documentary about the Greenland shark "Spirits Of The Arctic", and further collaboration for the exhibition at The Maritime Museum & Aquarium

New films streaming! AMONG SHARKS - UNTER HAIEN

After "Among Orcas" and "Among Humpback Whales," I got to dive with sharks - no cage.
AMONG SHARKS updates the stories we've been told about these predators, asking why they're still perceived as something to fear - a reputation that's actively working against efforts to save them from harmful human activities.

🎥Observing behaviour of hammerhead sharks, filming reef sharks and tiger sharks. Along the way, I met the people studying sharks, spending their life protecting them, and those who've been hurt in encounters with them.

My deep gratitude to all the human contributors who made this documentary possible: who gave us a nuanced, close-up look at some iconic shark species, made time for filming rare and mysterious behaviours, and generously shared their personal insights and experiences with us as a camera team.�

Sharks! Drop-jaw close-up perspectives, social behaviours with ; a shark-person whose incredible actions, whole-hearted advocacy and achievements leave me truly starstruck and in deep respect of both her life-long work for sharks and knowledge (& she’s a diamond of an exploration-cave-diver too!!!)
