Diving with sharks?!
To have brought sharks of Scandinavia’s cool waters to our audiences at The Maritime Museum & Aquarium Gothenburg in Sweden has been both an incredible honour to work with the team and a tremendous pleasure. Yet what we have hauled up about these elusive predators in Swedish waters are nothing short of hidden gems! Rare glimpses into a world that remains, to this day, largely uncharted.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

So thrilled to see our exhibition SHARKS, CAMERA, ACTION now open to visitors of all ages - The Maritime Museum & Aquarium Gothenburg, Sweden.

🌊Join my journey as an underwater cinematographer & filmmaker among sharks - from the Swedish Westcoast of Bohuslän to the deep waters of Greenland.

From baby sharks to the mysterious Greenland shark, our films and photographs take you close to the sharks and even behind-the-scenes.

⚓Sharks have existed for about 450 million years, long before dinosaurs. Over time, they have evolved into more than 500 known species, with many different shapes, sizes, and ways of living.

🐋WHAT A SPLASH of a festival!
Cinema-screen premiere for our Humpback whale film
with the most wonderful audience, totally sold out. I
enjoyed especially the thoughtful Q&A by Phillip
Kamke (NDR journalist) that touched on a lot of angles.

💫 So delightful to see our awesome big whales on a
big screen! Cheers to all team "Unter Buckelwalen"

bunch of global marine filmmakers, brunch-mingle
hosted by film fund Hamburg
Schleswig-Holstein, dancing the Ocean Parade
through the city of Kiel, inspiring Talks & film
screenings just to name some of my favs!
But then it took a total turn, reclaiming the streets for
ocean cinema, walk & watch films on walls, sails,
buildings and a wonderful DJ-cargo bike for a fun night
out!

This week brought me closer to space than I’ll probably ever get. Specialist training on groundbreaking immersive video technology in the NASA neutral buoyancy lab pool was surreal - a vision of expanding from 2D cinematography that I’ve had for years finally realized in my career. Filming underwater with this new Gates underwater housing tech alongside astronauts in training, in one of the world’s largest indoor pools, felt absolutely mind blowing. The whole experience was humbling and fascinating in ways I can’t quite put into words. 
I certainly made a mental nod to the early-career-me tracing film history and the silent-movie “Le Voyage dans la Lune / A Trip To the Moon” by George Méliès in 1902. 
Huge thanks to the team of Apple & Gates for welcoming me into this new and exciting journey, my wonderful and kind fellow underwater camera legends - and to NASA for having us while they were pushing forward the monumental Artemis II mission!! Grateful doesn’t begin to cover it, but it’s also incredibly grounding to have had that hands-on tech training and insights.

Did you know that humpback whales use tools?
🐋A team of scientists from the SETI Institute and the UC Davis documented, for the first time, humpback whales producing large bubble rings, like a human smoker blowing smoke rings, during friendly interactions with humans. This previously little studied behavior may represent play or communication. Humpback whales are already known for using bubbles to corral prey and creating bubble trails and bursts when competing to es**rt a female whale. These new observations show humpback whales producing bubble rings during friendly encounters with humans. This finding contributes to the WhaleSETI team’s broader goal of studying non-human intelligence to aid in the search for extraterrestrial intelligence.

What would Humpback whales tell us if they could speak our language?
When eye to eye with a Humpback whale, reading their body language, fully present behind my camera, it doesn’t feel like words are needed at first. And yet whales certainly need us you humans to act better on their behalf. After all, we have managed to turn the tide before and prevented the magnificent beings from being hunted to extinction. What would you ask a whale? 🐋🐋
