In honor of - A DECADE TO DIAGNOSIS

Here’s what a 10 year delay in diagnosis looked like for me. I hope that, in sharing this, my fellow endo-warriors and anyone else in chronic pain will feel seen. I hope that it will shed light on the need for more awareness, research, and education, as it demonstrates the direct impact when uninformed professionals dismiss our pain. And lastly, I hope that it will encourage others to believe us when we say we are in pain.

I don’t think endo explains everything over the course of the last decade, but my symptoms are all so commonly associated with endometriosis. Endo should have been a potential diagnosis many, many years ago.

Endometriosis - Part 1

Three weeks ago, I finally had laparoscopic excision surgery with an amazing surgical team in Austin. Surgery confirmed a suspected diagnosis of stage III, deeply infiltrating endometriosis. The journey has been a long one. And I could not have done it without the support of my husband, our pup, my family, friends, and coworkers.

March is significant because it is endometriosis awareness month and it marks the one year anniversary of finally settling on endometriosis as a potential diagnosis for my chronic health issues. 12 months ago, I had seldom heard the word endo, and never from any medical professionals in response to my symptoms. changed the course of my life with her advocacy, her bravery, her vulnerability, her guidance, and her friendship through this process.

the beginning of 2023 has ravaged us. the heaviness is real. and still, there are moments of laughter, of joy, of gratitude, of kindness, of mercy.

I am reminded of one of the most breathtaking landscapes I have ever experienced - Katla, Iceland. the very same volcano that produces the deepest, darkest black imaginable is also responsible for yielding a vibrant, electric green that defies reality.

the green is all the more saturated and brilliant as it ascends from the blackness. so too ,has each act of kindness, of presence, of care shined all the more brightly through the shroud of night. grateful for a community who loves fiercely when things are dark 🖤💚🖤

(I’m 97% serious, which means you should do it! we actually received such a card from a few years ago and it was/is my favorite)
