In the summer of 2021, I met the Kostrevas on top of Brockway Mountain for a family photoshoot in the Keweenaw. Little did I know at the time, just how many opportunities I would get to photograph their growing family over the next couple of years.
Fast forward to 2023, we were living in Florida and the Kostrevas came down for Spring Break and we got together for another family photoshoot. This time another little babe was added to the mix.
Last year, in 2024, Rylie had found out that we would be moving back to the Upper Peninsula and she asked me to capture one of the most special moments in their lives — the birth of their third child.
This past weekend, I made my way to their home to capture their family of 5 in their element. It has been so special to be trusted with the opportunity to document this family over the last couple of years.
It also had me reminiscing in my photo albums of all the different moments I’ve been able to capture for so many different families and couples over the years. It really isn’t something that I’ve ever taken for granted.
Being the one that’s been trusted to capture these fleeting moments is something I do not take lightly. Photography is a very vulnerable thing. There’s always the possibility that a moment could be missed, the subject could be out of focus, or maybe my style just isn’t exactly what a client was looking for. To have others trust in your art can be very nerve racking but also so humbling.
Although my photography gig is pretty much on the back burner at this time, I’m still just feeling so grateful for all the clients that have chosen me over the years. I appreciate each and every family or couple that picked me to capture such special moments and trusted my art in the process. Thank you ❤️
