🚀 🌕 The Artemis II launch window is scheduled for today starting at 4:24pm CST. This is the first crewed lunar mission since 1972. The mission goal is a 10 day, 685,000 mile journey around the Moon to verify all Orion systems before future landing missions. Re-entry: Orion will hit Earth’s atmosphere at roughly 25,000 mph. They will land in the Pacific Ocean where the US Navy will handle the recovery.
You can watch the launch on CBS News, CNN, Amazon Prime, the NASA App (free) and NASA’s YouTube channel. Link below- coverage has already started. 🚀 🌕

This feed will provide continuous coverage of Artemis II mission activities with live commentary, beginning with tanking of the SLS (Space Launch System) roc...

My first run at photographing the Orion Nebula. I have more work to do but it sure is fun learning! 🤩 This is the product of 196 photos stacked.
INFO ⬇️⬇️⬇️
The Orion Nebula (M42) is a massive, glowing cloud of gas and dust in the constellation Orion, famous as the closest large stellar nursery to Earth where new stars are actively forming. Visible to the naked eye as a fuzzy patch in Orion's sword, it's about 1,350 light-years away and spans roughly 25 light-years across. Its brilliant glow comes from hot, young stars, including the Trapezium cluster at its core, which illuminate the surrounding gas and carve out cavities in the nebula.

I tried something new last night. Photographing a nebula! ( a vast, interstellar cloud of dust, hydrogen, helium, and other ionized gases, often acting as a nursery for new stars or the debris field from dead ones) This is the result of 501 photos stacked. I plan to take more photos of it to stack on top making it more detailed.

The Rosette Nebula (NGC 2237) is a large, star-forming region in the constellation Monoceros, about 5,000 light-years away, known for its circular, rose-like shape with a central open star cluster (NGC 2244). Intense radiation from the young stars in the cluster excites the surrounding gas, causing it to glow in vibrant colors, while stellar winds carve out the central cavity, creating pillars and filaments of dust and gas. It's a popular target for astrophotographers and is also nicknamed the "Skull Nebula" in some orientations.

We visted the bird sancuary on South Padre Island. The mission of the South Padre Island Birding and Nature Center is to provide educational opportunities for our residents and visitors to learn about the birds, flora, fauna, and the environment of South Padre Island, the Laguna Madre Bay, and the Gulf of Mexico with an emphasis on conservation and environmental awareness.

Out and about South Padre Island. It's so nice in December. The weather was awesome. So many beautiful sunsets 😍

We rented a little home on Lake Abiquiu, New Mexico called Casita Bonita. The views around the home were absolutely breathtaking. There was a ton of wildlife but I didn't catch it all on camera. We had different adventures every day but made sure to be home by evening to watch the beautiful sunsets. Recommend 10/10.

The Monastery of Christ in the Desert was founded in 1964 by Father Aelred Wall, a Benedictine monk from Mount Saviour Monastery in New York. The community was established in the Chama Canyon wilderness of New Mexico to live a life of prayer and work according to the Rule of St. Benedict. It grew from a small priory in 1964 to an autonomous Abbey in 1996 and has since added buildings and continues its contemplative and physical work in the desert.

The Ghost Ranch, originally named Rancho de los Brujos (Ranch of the Witches), has a history rooted in cattle rustlers, local legends, and a famous artist. After changing hands multiple times, it became a successful guest ranch and a summer home for artist Georgia O'Keeffe, who painted many famous works there.

The area is also famous for its paleontology, with the discovery of over a thousand well-preserved fossil skeletons of a Triassic dinosaur called Coelophysis in a quarry at Ghost Ranch in 1947.

Movies filmed at Ghost Ranch include Oppenheimer, No Country for Old Men, Silverado, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, City Slickers, and the original Red Dawn.

Puye Cliff Dwellings- New Mexico

This was a fun visit to the Puye Cliff Dwellings. A guide drove us to the top of the mesa where remains of the village still stood.

Puye Cliff Dwellings was home to 1,500 Pueblo Indians who lived, farmed and hunted game there from the 900s to late 1400’s.

Inhabitants of Puye Cliff Dwellings then moved into the Rio Grande River Valley. They became ancestors of today’s Santa Clara people, who now live at Santa Clara Pueblo, 10 miles east of Puye Cliff Dwellings.

Puye Cliffs comprises two levels of cliff and cave dwellings cut into the cliff face, as well as dwellings on the mesa top. Over one mile long, the first level runs the length of the base of the mesa. The second level is about 2,100 feet long. Paths and stairways were cut into the face of the rock to connect the two levels and allow people to climb to the top of the mesa.
