Becoming a mom has changed me in a million ways, but one of the most notable ways is that it has made me lean into imperfection and find the beauty in it. The old me was very Type A (believe me, I still am 😆) but now I also see the value in all of the things that I used to see as “wrong” or “messy”.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When my toddler assembles one of his toys “wrong”, I sit back and marvel at how creative his approach is. I find the words that he pronounces wrong way cuter than the ones he pronounces correctly. I keep every little drawing he colors, no matter how outside-the-lines he scribbles.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This mindset has definitely transferred into my wedding career too. I’ve challenged myself to keep shots that I normally would’ve deleted because my clients might find something beautiful about them. When we’re used to seeing “perfect” photos, these blurry/crooked/grainy/imperfect images have a way of stopping us in our tracks and making us pay attention. Something about them feels more moody or authentic.

In just one month, Samantha and Brian will be getting married at none other than Paramount Country Club, the same venue I got married at 4 years ago!

Their first date was a long drive up to a mountain overlook where they talked and talked for hours; we took their engagement photos at this beautiful mountain vista point in Cold Spring; and next month, they’ll be getting married against the backdrop of the Ramapo Mountains.

My mountain-loving heart can’t wait!!

A day in the life of a wedding photographer with a toddler and newborn during the off-season. 📸 👶🏻 First a networking event with in Fishkill, NY followed by a wellness event with in Bristol, CT. Using Willow Go wearables to pump, Medela wipes to clean the parts, and Ceres Chill to store the milk. (The “trifecta!”)

Spring engagement session tip:

🌸 If your engagement session is in mid-April, I highly recommend choosing a location that has cherry blossoms! The pink or white blossoms look so soft and ethereal when they’re in the background or foreground of a photo.

🌹 If your session is in late May/early June, try to find a park or garden with peonies or roses!

2025 was the year of “figuring it out” and really catching our stride. Things are about to look different around here yet again with Baby #2 but I’m excited to see what 2026 has in store!

I’ve been meaning to write a “follow up” blog post to the one I wrote when I was pregnant with Summit, all about what it’s like juggling a wedding business and motherhood. Stay tuned! (Maybe that’ll be my maternity leave project I work on during those nights of interrupted sleep 😅👶)
