For this I decided to change things up a little bit. Instead of sharing a waterfall from my roadtrip, I'm going to share one of my favorite ones on Oahu.
It's one of my favorites because it's a secret! It is alongside a hiking trail but you can't see it so few people know it exists. It's one of my favorite places on island to marvel at the greatness of God. It's also a great thinking spot.
If you can't tell by now, I really love waterfalls. Really love.

The best waterfalls were the surprise ones. This by far was the biggest surprise. After a fun morning touring Ruby Falls and Rock City, I began the drive towards Asheville. My intent was to drive Hwy 64 and dip down into South Carolina. I immediately began questioning my life choices. Hwy 64 is steep and curvy- like 20mph curves for two hours. My hands gripped the steering wheel the whole time. The surrounding beauty of the place made up for the challenging drive.
Unknown to me, western North Carolina has countless waterfalls. If I would have known that, the trip would have gone differently. It's just another reason to get back to this beautiful area.

Sharing more about this story because I can't get over how cool it is. The guys name was Leo Lambert. He had actually been trying to find another entrance into Lookout Mountain Cave because the original entrance had been sealed. Going down the elevator shaft that had been built to find the other cave, he just happened to shine his light on a small hole. If he would have shined his light a few feet above or below, he would have missed the cave entrance and it probably would have never been found. Completely by accident.
Upon entering the cave, Lambert had to crawl on his stomach for 6 hours before he could stand up. Can you imagine? It took him 17 hours to explore the cave. Ruby Falls is 90 ft tall but obviously it has to come from somewhere. Above Ruby Falls is a 55 ft waterfall. An expedition team was sent up in the 1950s to see what was above Ruby Falls. They found bats as well as the bones of a snake. There has to be a connection somewhere between Lookout Mountain Cave and Ruby Falls but they haven't found it yet.

Sharing about my visit to Ruby Falls this morning. Ruby Falls is a 90 ft underground waterfall under Lookout Mountain. It was discovered by accident in 1928 by Leo Lambert. He was trying to find another entrance to Lookout Mountain Cave and found this instead. Its a super cool story.

By Day 7 of my roadtrip, I had hit a wall. I was exhausted and just wanted to recuperate somewhere outside of nature. I didn't want to hike anymore. I didn't want to see more waterfalls. I had decided to drive down to Chattanooga early instead. At the last minute, I decided to turn around and do this trail.
I'm glad I did! This was easily my favorite trail on the trip. Just over 3 miles long with lots of little waterfalls and cascades, it was just I needed to re-energize. It was gorgeous. I would love to go back someday.

Machine Falls is a beautiful waterfall near Old Stone Fort State Archaeological Area in Tennessee. I had this beauty to myself the entire time I was there. It was so peaceful that I didn't want to leave.

For today's another view of Burgess Falls State Park from the top of the tallest waterfall. If you look closely, you can see kayaks in the river 130ft below.

Note: this looks sketchy but it wasn't.

Burgess Falls State Park boasts 4 waterfalls all within close proximity of each other. The trail was easy for me but had multiple steps. This is the tallest of the four waterfalls at 130 ft. I loved Tennessee and am hoping to make it back someday. Have you ever visited any waterfalls in Tennessee?

For this , another picture of Cummins Falls. This is from the base.
I'm terrified of snakes and heard there were tons of snakes, especially copperheads, in Tennessee. So I carried trekking poles everywhere I went. Not to help me with my footing, but to tap the rocks and piles of leaves in front of me. So I wouldn't step on any snakes. I probably looked so weird. 😂 The last section to this waterfall is going up a river and I thought for sure I would see one. Fortunately, I didn't see a single snake my entire time in Tennessee.

For the last of 2020, I present Cummins Fall. My second day in Tennessee I visited three state parks. It was insane. This was the first. When I went, a permit was required to get to the base of the falls. I'll post from the base later. This is from the viewpoint.
Reviews from had me worried it would be more difficult than it was. The most difficult part was walking down the river to get to the base. It was beautiful!

My last stop at Old Stone Fort State Archaeological Area was this series of multiple waterfalls and cascades. It was beautiful. The downside to this section of the park is that it's very crowded. I was really tempted to climb down to get a picture from the base. However, I could only see one way to get down and I was traveling solo so thought better of it. It was a beautiful first day in Tennessee!
