One of my favorites. April 2019. We had lunch with a Miao minority family as the mother helped prepare her daughters for the Sisters’ Meal festival. An annual celebration bringing tens of thousands from surrounding villages, wearing their traditional authentic silver jewelry pieces and colorful garments. Grandma was smiling the whole time. Sadly I found out she had passed on when I returned in 2024.

The annual Contemporary Photography in Hawaii 2026 photo exhibition opening reception is Thursday February 12 5:30-8 pm at the Downtown Art Center (1041 Nuuanu Avenue 2nd Floor). I am especially honored and grateful to have my individual photo entitled “Shanghai’s Golden Mornings” as well as my portfolio of 10 photos (2 will be exhibited, the entire portfolio will be online), entitled “Sips of Time” accepted into the exhibition. For my portfolio, I made multiple visits to the one of the oldest teahouses in China in hopes of capturing the essence of daily life there where time slows and presence matters. Please come by on opening night to see my photos and the photos of many other talented photographers. The photos will be on display from February 12-28. Hope to see you all there.

It rained with heavy fog on the 1st day so no pics of the “avatar” mountains. 2nd day light rain still overcast but at least got to cross the glass bridge with some shots looking out from the bridge.
