Milano cosa ti è successo?
I lived in Milan for 20 years, enough to see its transformation. When I moved there I was just a student, so many things to do, concerts, exhibitions, events, the dining scene, so little money to afford all the city had to offer. It was a vibrant city, a European capital. In the 80s it used to be called “Milano da bere”. This slogan was used in an advertising spot that showed images of a typical Milanese day, describing Milan as a city that “reborn every morning, pulsates like a heart [...] Milan is to be lived, dreamed and enjoyed.” What happened to all of this? Why people on the sidewalks do not care a single bit about rudely running into others, because their time and space seems to be more valuable than other humans. Why streets are dirty, covered in dogs excrements? When did that change? The city is hosting the winter olympic games in 2026, and I hope it takes this as an opportunity to rise again.
Enjoy some of my best Milanese moments from last week.
Keep the good (food), (try to) forget the rest.
