A vigil was held on August 9, 2022 for Nate Yuen at the trailhead where he was found.

People shared their stories and fond memories of Nate and it just solidified what I already knew of him, that Nate was one of those good humans that don’t come around too often and I know I’m not alone when I say he will be sorely missed and the aloha āina he did will continue through the lāhui he helped so much in environmental justice.

Nate was honored in the typical lāhui fashion, with mele, oli, hula and ho’okupu. A Hau tree was also planted at the trailhead for him so the next time you go to the waimano trail, take a moment to honor him there. And I think the best way to continue to honor Nate would be to stop and smell the Hau, the puakenikeni, or to take the time to appreciate the beauty of these lands down to the smallest snail Nate would photograph and educate us on. Take a minute to breathe in our beautiful home.

Im glad I was able to be there to capture this moment in time for Nate. He spent a lot of his time honoring the things he captured in his images so it was only right to capture this moment to honor him.

A hui hou Nate! Mahalo for everything you’ve done for the lāhui and for the kindness you’ve always shown me when we were out there capturing moments like these.

Pre-Wedding Photoshoot with Mike and Kahea

Yes, we also have some brighter color images with smiles and laughters, but we wanted to explore a more unconventional emotions that are less portrayed. Capturing emotions that evokes security and willingness to sacrifice one’s life to protect the people you love. Love has many “ugly” sides to it, but it’s learning to surpass that and working together is what makes the goodtimes a lot more to cherish.
