“Hymn to the Sea”

I didn’t know, when I photographed this arch, that one day the photograph would outlast it.

Now that it has fallen, I see this image differently. I see the privilege of having stood there. The quiet beauty of something I could never return to photograph again.

That is why I make photographs—to hold onto places that move us, even as the world changes around them.
