My piece is in “Fins, Feathers & Fur: Textures of the Living World” at the St. Charles Arts Council’s ARC Gallery. "Ready to Fly" is an 18x24 acrylic print on stainless standoffs with a Dibond aluminum backing.

I took this shot of this beautiful Great White Heron on the beach of our resort in Cancun. I thought it might be an egret, but apparently Herons have yellow legs and Egrets have black legs. It strutted around the beach like it didn't have a care in the world. I have several great photos of this bird, but this one, just before it took flight, is my favorite.

Opening reception is this Friday, October 30, 5 to 7pm, open to the community. The show runs through December 20.

I've always heard the expression of making a bee line to something. But I think this photo is a great representation of that. She knew exactly where she was going!

It was late September, past summer, but she wasn't done working yet. She had packed her hind legs solid with pollen. I am sure she would be on her way back to the hive soon. How many flowers had she visited? How many more could she visit before having to return to the hive? My curiosity and admiration for these creatures that keep us alive has no bounds.

Chicago doesn't always give you sunshine. Sometimes it gives you fog rolling off the lake, a skyline disappearing into the clouds, and the city going about its morning anyway — cyclists, walkers, people living their day on the lakefront path.

Shot near Chicago Avenue on a foggy morning with my Sony A7RV and Sigma 24-70mm — my go-to lens for days when I don't know exactly what I'm going to find. Turns out fog makes everything more interesting.

The light was already going golden when I arrived at Thorn Creek trail with my macro lens — the kind of evening light that turns an ordinary patch of red clover into something luminous. I had scouted this stretch the day before on a bike ride, both sides of the path overtaken by wildflowers and alive with honeybees. I came back for this.

Shot at f/4.5 to keep the entire bee sharp while still melting the background into that soft green blur. Close enough to see the pollen basket on her leg and the fine hairs catching the last warm light of the day. Macro photography doesn't create beauty — it just finally shows you what was already there.

My obsession with bees continues. I recently discovered a spot on a trail that has about a quarter mile of wild flowers on both sides. I have gone back several days in a row just to stalk and shoot these beautiful creatures that keep us alive. BTW, I have to ride 17.5 miles to get there. Worth every pedal/petal. 😁

From the Thorn Creek bike path to the walls of the ARC Gallery. "Bee Feeding" and "Bee Fleeting" are now part of the Taste of Summer juried exhibition in St. Charles, IL. Grateful and proud.

𝙏𝙝𝙖𝙞𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙙 - 𝘾𝙤𝙤𝙠𝙚𝙙 𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙎𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙚𝙩

In this post I wanted to concentrate on the people as they actually prepared or served their food. I wanted to catch the vendors mid action as they went about their business flipping, stirring, scoping, bagging or handing over their food.
