Happy World Photography Day! 📸

Photography changed my life.

It taught me patience.
It made me more curious.
It pushed me to explore, to notice more, and to keep looking at the world with a sense of wonder.

It has taken me to incredible places, connected me with amazing people, and helped me see beauty in things I might have otherwise walked right past.

The Everglades is one of those places that can seem quiet at first.

But the longer you spend here, the more you notice.

The movement in the grass. The birds overhead. The changing light. The sounds after dark.

It is wild, subtle, unpredictable, and completely different every time you visit.

That is what keeps me coming back.

Why visit the Everglades? Because there is always more to discover.

The Everglades stretches across a huge part of South Florida, flowing slowly from the Kissimmee River toward Florida Bay.

It is often called a “River of Grass” because water moves through this vast, flat landscape in a slow sheet.

The Everglades is home to an incredible range of wildlife, from alligators below to bald eagles overhead.

Every trail, road, and body of water can surprise you with something different.

I’ve watched hundreds of sunsets in the Everglades, and somehow no two ever feel the same.

The Everglades after dark is one of my favorite places to be.

Far from the brightest city lights, the sky opens up and the stars take over. On a clear night, you can watch the Milky Way rise above the sawgrass while the entire landscape changes around you.

There is no single way to experience the Everglades.

You can hike, bike, paddle, photograph wildlife, camp, explore back roads, or stay out after dark.

Every visit can become a completely different adventure.

Every night photographing the sky is different. Every night has its own kind of magic.

I started photographing the night sky eight years ago, and from the first time I set my tripod down and looked up, everything went quiet. Not just around me, in my mind too.

Somehow I felt a connection that made me realize documenting the night sky was what I wanted to do in life.

For the past several months, I’ve been documenting the work of the Purple Martin Conservation Program by Audubon Everglades , especially alongside Shelly, Shelly Rozenberg

I started *Purple Skies* knowing almost nothing about Purple Martins, and it’s been an incredible journey watching these birds go from building their nests to finally taking flight.

In the eastern U.S., Purple Martins rely almost entirely on housing provided by people. Their story is deeply connected to people who care enough to give them a place to return to every year.

Thanks to people like Shelly, the volunteers who keep showing up, and organizations like Audubon Everglades that support this work, thousands of Purple Martins continue to return, nest, and raise the next generation.

This season alone, more than 2,000 Purple Martins fledged, with a 98% success rate across the program’s nesting gourds.

Today, on Purple Martin Conservation Day, I’m excited to share the first look at *Purple Skies*.

I love meteor showers.

I’m 33 years old and I still make a wish every time I see one of those little balls of fire streak across the night sky.

Next week, on the night of August 12 into the morning of August 13, the Perseid meteor shower reaches its peak, and this year the moon stays mostly out of the way.

You don’t need a telescope. You don’t need to know every constellation.

Just find somewhere dark, bring a chair or blanket, let your eyes adjust, and look up.

If you’re in South Florida, head to the Everglades, Big Cypress, Kissimmee Prairie, or the Keys. The farther you get from city lights, the better.

Some of the best things in this world are still completely free.

Come outside. Pay attention. The universe is putting on a show.

Here’s to 33.

This year’s birthday feels a little different. It falls on Father’s Day, and with our baby Lily arriving in less than a month, I can’t help but look back at everything life has taught me.

These days, life feels a little calmer and slower. I find myself enjoying the quiet moments more instead of always chasing the next adventure.

I’ve found a love I never thought I would experience, and now I’m waiting for a new kind of love. The kind that already changed my life the moment I found out I was becoming a dad.

If I could leave a few lessons from these 33 years, they would be: love hard, laugh often, stay curious, seek fulfillment instead of acceptance, and enjoy life as much as you can. Some moments will be hard, but keep going. There is still so much beauty ahead.

Grateful for everything that brought me here, and even more grateful for everything that’s coming next.

Here’s to 33, and to my first Father’s Day as a dad-to-be.

And for all the dads out there, especially the girl dads, I’d love to hear your best advice.

Postcards from the Everglades.

Some of my favorite moments from this wild and unforgettable landscape. From close wildlife encounters and golden sunsets to quiet nights under a sky full of stars, the Everglades always feels alive.

The Everglades is the largest subtropical wilderness in the United States and home to both alligators and crocodiles, one of the only places in the world where they coexist. This vast “River of Grass” also helps provide drinking water for millions of people across South Florida.

At night, far from the city lights, the Everglades reveals some of the darkest skies in Florida, where the Milky Way still shines overhead.

When I first visited the Everglades eight years ago, I didn’t know what to expect. Everything I had heard made it seem like a place full of danger, gators, darkness, something to stay away from.

But the first time I stepped into it at night, everything changed. It was quiet, beautiful, and alive in a way I had never experienced before.

The more I learned about this place, its history, its stories, and its resilience, the more I saw a part of myself in it.

This place changed me. It taught me not to be afraid, but to be curious.
