This cold spell make it seem like spring is never coming. It won’t be long till we’re chasing the sound of the gobble on those warmer days.

Not the find I expected to see yesterday. I knew this bear was staying close to this area in a bottom. I have had him on camera for a couple months now. When he first showed up he had mange so bad I thought the cold would kill him. Yesterday I cut his tracks in a spot that I have seen multiple times this year. Even back to fall a time or two near a mud puddle. So I decided to follow them to see where he was. I have read that the cold will kill mange and it looks as though he is starting regrow hair. Not sure if that’s true or not though. Walking up on his den was very cool. He has a pretty nice spot dug out. I experienced this one other time many years ago during flintlock season. Such a cool moment.

Quick little walk today following some trails. Snow makes it hard to get around but easier to see where the deer are. First shed of the year and a surprise find that we will post later. Was a good day in the timber.

So with today’s vote 6 no to 3 yes the change won’t happen yet. They are looking for more data to be presented and revisit in April. From what most commissioners say, Saturday is the best day for opening day just what Saturday is best.

If you didn’t get to watch the meeting today by the PGC board. Here is all the proposed changes and the whys?

Turkey season and the second tag can be brought back after a few year study.

CWD changes will go to each WMA Instead of the current borders to easier regulate and control the area.

If you haven’t wrote the board I recommend doing it for the proposed changes as it’s the only way it won’t happen.

Changes
-move rifle opener to Saturday before thanksgiving(no your@not gaining an extra week)

-move bear season to last week of archery season.

-eliminate the second spring turkey tag (this was to be used to raise money for habitat and turkey improvements)

-all Sundays would be open to hunt including late season and spring gobbler.
