Happy news from our family! We are so blessed to welcome another little girl into our family in four weeks. Spring has been filled with a fully booked photography calendar, end of school year events, and preparing for this sweet baby. Thank you so much to all of my clients who made this the best season I’ve ever had. Nothing is better than photographing a returning client or receiving a word of mouth referral! This week I’m sending the last galleries from spring and preparing for one last weekend of sessions before I begin maternity leave. Late summer and fall are currently booking. I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about why we create. This week, my daughter and I came up with a list of all the beautiful gifts around us. She listed grass, water, flowers, raspberries, rocks, and people. It had been so long since I had taken a moment to marvel at the miracle of nature. Perhaps we create because we’re surrounded by such beautiful, miraculous gifts of creation. And my hashtags.

I adore this painting by Degas. It’s one of my favorites at the Chicago Art Institute. Is the woman pictured looking adoringly at the hat she created or is she a customer contemplating a purchase? It's ambiguous. If the woman is the creator, I love witnessing her pride in what she has made. If she is a consumer, Degas placed us in the milliner’s vantage point to witness the customer’s delight. As an artist, there is nothing more wonderful than creating work you're proud of as well as having happy customers. Both perspectives are lovely.
