When you're traveling, a coffee stop can be a welcome break.
It can also be a chance to pay attention.

Choose somewhere that interests you. Sit down. Let yourself enjoy the cup before reaching for your phone or deciding where to go next.

What do you notice? The view from the window? What's on the noticeboard? The sound of conversation? What people order?

If a conversation happens naturally, ask a question and listen. Sometimes you'll have a friendly exchange. Sometimes you'll simply enjoy a quiet cup.
Either way, you've given yourself time to be there.

A little curiosity for your weekend: Where could you sit for twenty minutes and notice something you've been walking past?

Photograph what surrounds the main attraction.

This week's photo challenge: make a three-image story of a place.
You can do this on a trip or close to home.

The setting: Take a photograph that shows where you are.
The detail: Move closer to something that catches your attention.
Everyday life: Photograph something that suggests how the place is used. A shopfront, a bicycle rack, a café table, or a community noticeboard.

Then look at the three images together. What do the details add that the first photograph couldn't tell you on its own?

Phone or camera—either works. Share your favorite image or tell me what you noticed once you looked beyond the obvious view.

“Do people still use travel advisors?”
“Can’t I book the same trip myself?”

Yes and Yes.
But there’s more to planning a great trip than clicking “Book Now.”

It’s finding the right experience for you—and making the most of your time and travel budget. From a nearby staycation to a bucket-list safari, I help you plan and book travel that fits how you want to experience the world.

Through my network of hotels and travel partners, I can also explore benefits you might miss booking on your own, such as preferred rates, priority for room upgrades, late check out / in, or spa credits. These vary by property and booking, but they can add something special to your stay.

And just because you can handle all the research, comparisons, and details yourself doesn’t mean you have to.

Let me take the planning off your plate so you can spend more time looking forward to your next adventure.

Where would you love to go next? Send me a message, and let’s start planning.

Plan the attraction. Leave room around it.

When you're planning a trip, try leaving a little time after one of the landmarks, you're excited to visit. Instead of scheduling the next stop immediately, give yourself a chance to walk around, step into a shop, or have lunch nearby.

Even fifteen or twenty minutes sitting in a café can give you something different to notice.

Before you leave, ask: What interests me here beyond the attraction I came to see?

You don't have to fill every gap in your itinerary. Give your curiosity somewhere to go.

What's a place where you'd love a little more time to wander?

You saw the castle. But what else did you see?

When I visited Blair Castle in Scotland, there was more to notice than the castle itself. There were daffodils out back. A village to explore. Highland cows I had hoped to photograph.

And there was a cozy pub where a fabulous lunch turned into a couple of hours of conversation with the owners and people sitting nearby. They even had a dog menu, which, of course, caught my attention.

I could have seen the castle and moved on. But I'm glad I stayed.

In this episode of Notes from the Window Seat, I'm talking about seeing beyond the landmarks and leaving room for the details that help you experience a place.

A CUP OF CURIOSITY ☕

There's something about a café on a rainy day. Especially when you're traveling. You come in out of the weather, order something warm and suddenly you have permission to sit for a while.

So you watch. Who comes in? Do people rush through the rain or barely seem to notice it? What are they ordering? Who knows everyone behind the counter? What's happening outside the window?

Sometimes weather forces us to stop moving long enough to notice the everyday rhythm of a place. And maybe that's worth being curious about.

The next time rain interrupts your travel plans, find a local café, order something you haven't tried before and spend 30 minutes simply watching the place happen around you.

You might discover that you haven't stopped exploring at all.

FRIDAY PHOTO CHALLENGE: Photograph the Weather

This week don't wait for perfect conditions.
Rain? Fog? Wind? Gray skies?

Give yourself 10 minutes and photograph what the weather is doing to the world around you.

Look for:
• Reflections on wet pavement
• Movement from the wind
• Water on windows
• Umbrellas
• Fog and mist
• Changing light
• People adapting to the conditions
• Details you might normally overlook

The goal isn't to make bad weather look good. The goal is to take a photograph that communicates what the moment felt like.
